P-C girls top G-R, now 1-1 on season

The Paton-Churdan girls are 1-1 in hoops after a victory over the Glidden-Ralston Wildcats Friday in Glidden.

The two teams matched each point for point in the first quarter; the score was 7-6 for the Rockets when the first buzzer sounded. In the second quarter the Rockets scored 17 points while the Wildcats scored only 10, giving the Rockets a seven point margin at the intermission.

The Rockets stretched their lead in the third quarter, scoring 19 points to the Wildcats’ seven. P-C coach Tom Kennedy gave younger players time on the floor late in the game. The Rockets scored eight points in the fourth quarter as the host Wildcats scored 11 for the final 51-35 score.

The Rockets were led by 6’2” junior Danielle Hoyle. Hoyle scored 32 points to lead her team to a 51-35 win. She made 11 of 12 shots from 2-point range for a whopping 92 percent. She made one of two shots from 3-point range and was seven for 10 at the foul line. Hoyle also dominated at the boards, grabbing nine defensive rebounds.

Tessa Steimel scored nine points and Karissa Stephenson and Camryn Paup scored five each.

The team made 12 of 21 field goals for 57 percent, six of 19 3-point shots for 32 percent, and nine of 14 free throws for 64 percent.

Paton-Churdan hosts Exira-EHK Tuesday, Dec. 10.
