New Winter Festival, Celebration of Trees on holiday calendar

Area residents are invited to participate in the Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce’s Winter Festival and Celebration of Trees, slated for Saturday, Dec. 7, from 1 to 7 pm, and Sunday, Dec. 8, from 12 to 4 pm at 123 N. Chestnut St, formerly Ace Hardware.

The Celebration of Trees will feature festive trees decorated by members of the community, many of which will be up for silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will benefit New Opportunities’ Christmas toy drive.

The Winter Festival will include children’s activities, photos, carriage rides around the square, music, treats, prizes, and Santa time.

Residents can plan to attend the family event, and/or they can provide a uniquely decorated Christmas tree for the display.

Those who plan to display a tree are asked to fill out a submission form before Nov. 27. The forms are available at the Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce office at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Welcome Center. The form asks for information about planned tree. Each exhibitor will have a display space of 4 ft by 6 ft. Props can be added along with the tree.

Trees will be set up Thursday or Friday, Dec. 5-6, between 3 and 7 pm.

Decorators can offer their tree for auction or can take their tree home Dec. 8 after the Winter Festival.

Persons who want more information can call the Chamber office at 515-386-2155 or email chamber@greenecountyiowa.com
