The Rippey Lions Club will meet Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 pm for a potluck meal, followed by business meeting. Dick Bardole is in charge of the program.

The Rippey library will be closed for Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11.

HALLOWEEN PARTY -The annual Halloween party at the Rippey public library was held Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 5 pm with approximately 25 attending. As the children arrived, one could see that some had put a lot of thought into their costumes. After their tummies were full of hot dogs, chips and cookies, they went into the library where they listened to a book that was read by one of the board members, Cindy Devilbiss.

The children enjoyed the relay race down one aisle of the library, carrying a cotton ball in a plastic spoon and putting it into a bowl. Some tried it several times and the highlight was when a father and mother attending got into the race, with the father running backwards!

The costume judging was next with Cindy and board member Lyle Rychnovsky judging. Prizes were awarded and Halloween candy bags were handed out. Other board members who helped were Nancy Burrow and Jean Borgeson as well as Phyllis Bardole, librarian. Thanks to those who helped and those who donated food and prizes, also.

I’ve been a part of this tradition for many, many years and it’s always fun. One young girl remarked to me, “Didn’t you wear that clown outfit last year?” I told her, “I wear it every year and it hasn’t worn out yet! I wore out my witch outfit!”

We “adults” used to really enjoy Halloween at the library and before I made the clown outfits for Velda and I, the witch was the costume of choice. This picture was taken when I was librarian in the late 1990’s. I left the warts off my face for this picture, so I wouldn’t scare the little ones. All I seem to do lately, is reminisce.
