City, school election Tuesday

Polls open 7 am – 8 pm in seven precincts

Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to cast ballots in the City and School elections. The polls will be open  from 7 am until 8 pm in seven locations around the county.

Absentee ballots can be voted at the Greene County auditor’s office now during regular office hours: 8 am – 4:30 pm Monday – Friday through Monday, Nov. 4.

All cities in Greene County will elect mayors and council members. Also on the ballot for the Greene County Schools are two directors. Paton-Churdan will elect two directors also.

Scranton mayor Cole Gustoff is unopposed in his bid for re-election. There are four candidates for three seats on the city council. Ashley Squibb is a current member with Jeramie Phillips, Cassidy Wilson and Zach Sukovaty seeking approval from voters. Julie McAleer and Ethel Subbert are not seeking re-election.

Long-time Rippey mayor Daniel Brubaker is unopposed as are current council members Jon Allen, Ned Johnston and Richard Liebich.

In Jefferson, mayor Craig Berry is being challenged by council member Matt Gordon. There are three candidates for two seats for city council: Dave Sloan and Matt Wetrich are current members, with Sean Sebourn also seeking office.

Churdan voters will elect two council members by write-in. Only Andrew Hamilton filed nomination papers. Current councilmen Steve Killeen, Jason Minnehan and Buck H Kastle did not file. Mayor Joleen Killeen is unopposed.

In Grand Junction Pierre Kellogg is running unopposed for mayor. Current mayor Brock Lyons did not file nomination papers. Voters will pick two council members out of three candidates: Chad Wilson, Brian Mount and Brandon Mount. Meladee Graven and Alan Robinson did not put their names on the ballot.

Paton mayor Steve Burrell is running for re-election as are council members Judy Wilson and Casey Kaufman. A third candidate is Chris Sprecher as Eric Geisler did not seek re-election.

Dana mayor Mandy Sims is running for re-election as is council member Kellie Madison.

This is a changing year for the Greene County Community Schools board as it will decrease from seven members to five. Longtime board members Sam Harding and Mark Peters are not running for re-election.

Voters will elect two directors, with incumbents John McConnell and Steve Fisher seeking re-election along with Randy Lebeck running also.

The terms of two directors on the Paton-Churdan Schools board expire. David Palmer is seeking re-election while Kelly Minnihan is a candidate. Eric Happe did not file nomination papers.

The precinct polling places and addresses for this election are:
CENTRAL PRECINCT – Clover Hall, Fairgrounds, Jefferson (Consisting of voters within Bristol, Grant, Greenbrier, Franklin, Hardin and Jackson Townships.) Clover Hall Fairgrounds 601 E. Lincoln Way, Jefferson.

EAST PRECINCT – St. Brigid Parish Center, Grand Junction (Consisting of voters within Junction and Washington Townships, City of Dana, City of Grand Junction and City of Rippey.) St. Brigid Parish Center, 602 Hager Street E., Grand Junction.

JEFFERSON 1 PRECINCT – South Assembly Room, Courthouse, Jefferson (Consisting of voters within the corporate city limits of Jefferson and located mostly east of Wilson St. and south of railroad tracks.) Courthouse 114 N. Chestnut Street, Jefferson.

JEFFERSON 2 PRECINCT – Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson (Consisting of voters within the corporate city limits of Jefferson located mostly north of Westwood Dr. (from the western edge of precinct) to High St., north of Lincoln Way from High St. to Wilson Ave. north of railroad tracks from Wilson Ave. on east.) Trinity Lutheran Church 801 W. Lincoln Way St, Jefferson.

JEFFERSON 3 PRECINCT – Greene County Community Center (Consisting of voters within the corporate city limits of Jefferson and located mostly south of Westwood Dr. (from the western edge of precinct) to High St; south of Lincoln Way St. from High St.. to Wilson Ave. mostly west of Wilson Ave.

NORTH PRECINCT — Community Hall, Churdan (Consisting of voters within Cedar, Dawson, Highland and Paton Townships, City of Churdan and City of Paton.) Community Hall, 410 Sand Street, Churdan.

WEST PRECINCT — City Hall, Scranton (consisting of voters within Kendrick, Scranton and Willow Townships and the City of Scranton.) City Hall, 900 Eagle Street, Scranton.

Results will be available Tuesday night for the city elections. The school races will take longer due to multiple counties being involved.
