Programs on Hershey history next week

Greene County is excited to offer two opportunities to hear Laura Keyes, director of the Dunlap public library in Dunlap IL, present the program “The Hersey Chocolate Company.”

Today the name Hershey is synonymous with quality milk chocolate. But that wasn’t always the case. Milton S. Hershey worked hard and failed often before his chocolate company was finally successful.

And when he did become a household name and had earned a vast fortune, Milton and his wife Catherine decided to give it all away. Because of their generosity, tens of thousands of orphans have been saved, protected, and educated.

Those who attend this illustrated program will hear the “behind the scenes” story of this beloved American company.

Keyes, who graduated from UW-Madison with a master’s degree in library studies, has been presenting on historic topics for more than 10 years. She enjoys researching literary symbolism, and is contracted to write a book on that subject.

The presentation will be Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 pm at the Grand Junction public library, and Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 10 am at the Churdan public library.
