Sheriff’s report – September 2019

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Monday, Sept. 30: At 6:26 am a deputy investigated a burglary in Scranton. At 12:07 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1800 block of P Ave in Grant Township. At 7:21 pm a deputy investigated a theft in Scranton.

Sunday, Sept. 29: At 1:12 am a deputy investigated an assault in Grand Junction. At 8:45 am deputies conducted a search warrant for stolen property in the 2600 block of Zephyr Ave in Carroll County. The Greene County sheriff’s office was assisted by the Carroll County sheriff’s office. At 11:07 am the sheriff and deputies conducted a search warrant for stolen property in the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 1:52 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in Farlin. At 8:52 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment  in Grand Junction. At 11:48 pm a deputy investigated an assault in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Sept. 28: At 4:42 pm a deputy, Grand Junction fire, and Paton fire assisted Boxholm fire with a combine fire on Y Avenue near 130th St in Paton Township. At 9:29 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment  in Grand Junction. At 11:21 pm a deputy located a dog running at large by the park in Churdan. The Husky was taken to the animal holding facility.

Friday, Sept. 27: At 7:52 am a deputy investigated a theft in Scranton. At 10:21 am a deputy investigated a burglary in Churdan. At 4:06 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Grand Junction. At 4:27 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Grand Junction. At 4:28 pm a deputy investigated another complaint of criminal mischief  in Grand Junction. At 4:33 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief Grand Junction. At 8:10 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Grand Junction.

Thursday, Sept. 26: At 7:39 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on Highway 30 near U Ave at Grand Junction. At 6:07 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 300 block of Main St in Grand Junction. At 7:44 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road E-26 (170th St) near V Ave east of Dana. Phyllis Minnehan, 69, of Churdan struck a deer with a 2015 Chevrolet Impala. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

Wednesday, Sept. 25: At 5:16 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Charles Beddow, 52, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2014 Chevrolet Volt. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $7,000.

Tuesday, Sept. 24: At 4:58 pm a deputy investigated theft in Grand Junction. At 6:19 pm a deputy investigated a possible burglary in Churdan.

Monday, Sept. 23: At 5:59 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1400 block of 160th St in Dawson Township. At 6:52 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Grand Junction. At 7:03 pm a deputy investigated an assault in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Sept. 22: At 2:52 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in Rippey. At 6:58 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 900 block of 230th St in Scranton Township.

Saturday, Sept. 21: At 8:26 am a deputy assisted with a found dog in the 1100 block of L Ave in Bristol Township. At 4:29 pm a deputy arrested Robert Thoma, 20, of Scranton for driving while barred*.

Friday, Sept. 20: At 2:08 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on Highway 30 near K Ave west of Jefferson. Marshall Roberts, 25, of Jefferson struck two raccoons with his 2019 Kia Forte, causing an estimated $2,000 damage to the car. At 7:58 am a deputy investigated an assault at Sparky’s in Churdan. At 1:52 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 1500 block of 110th St in Dawson Township. At 9:49 pm a deputy and a Iowa State Patrolman investigated a domestic assault in Grand Junction.

Thursday, Sept. 19: At 8:03 am a deputy investigated an assault in Grand Junction. At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1700 block of Redwood Ave in Grant Township. At 11:28 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of burglary in Scranton.

Wednesday, Sept.18: At 12:21 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in Scranton.

Tuesday, Sept. 17: At 12:40 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 2200 block of M Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 6:34 am a deputy investigated a driving complaint on Highway 30 near Scranton. Christopher Christian, 39, of Scranton was arrested for driving while barred*. Christian also had an arrest warrant for a parole violation out of Marshall County. At 3:29 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Scranton. At 6:28 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 177th St in Cedar Township. Jesse Janssen, 37, of Scranton struck a deer with a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. The amount of damage to the vehicle is not known as the driver left the scene. At 7:02 pm a deputy investigated an anhydrous tank leak on Highway 4 near 190th St in Hardin Township. At 8:21 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township.

Monday, Sept. 16: At 8:32 am a deputy investigated a complaint of under-age vaping in Grand Junction. At 12:17 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in Scranton. At 1:37 pm a deputy arrested Karielyn Williamson, 46, of Scranton for arrest warrants out of Minnesota. At 5:21 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in Scranton. At 6:36 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Sept. 15: At 12:55 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 100 block of 190th St in Kendrick Township. At 12:44 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal burning in Scranton. At 3:35 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a leaking anhydrous tank at the NEW Cooperative location on Highway 4 in Franklin Township. At 9:07 pm the sheriff, a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to search for a lost female on the Raccoon River near Squirrel Hollow Park in Junction Township. The female was located after about 90 minutes of searching.

Saturday, Sept. 14: At 2:21 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest.

Friday, Sept. 13: At 7:27 am a deputy investigated a single-vehicle rollover accident on County Road E-53 near Highway 25 south of Scranton. Dominic Johns, 15, of Scranton lost control of a Pontiac Grand Prix. The vehicle rolled onto its roof in the south ditch. The Scranton fire department and Greene County Ambulance responded to the scene. No one was transported by ambulance. Johns was cited for violation of a school permit and failure to maintain control. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,500. At 6:36 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of cattle out on County Road E-63 (330th St) near B Ave in Willow Township. At 7:53 pm a deputy assisted with trying to locate a missing dog in Scranton. At 8:02 pm a deputy investigated a gas drive-off at Casey’s General Store in Scranton.

Thursday, Sept. 12: At 11:12 am a deputy investigated a 911 hang up in the 200 block of Eaton Ave in Cedar Township. At 1:33 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in Rippey. At 2:26 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in Churdan. At 3:05 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on 195th St and E Ave in Kendrick Township. At 4:51 pm a deputy investigated a safe that was located in the ditch on Orchard Ave near Cooper. At 7:20 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Franklin Township. At 7:21 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in Churdan.

Wednesday, Sept. 11: At 10:03 am a deputy assisted with a horse running at large on the roadway in the 1700 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Jackson Township. At 2:30 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief to a gravel road in the 2200 block of 120th St in Paton Township. At 4:02 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in Grand Junction. At 9:45 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on Highway 169 near 200th St in Boone County for the Boone County sheriff’s office. Boone County deputy Nathaniel Spencer stopped to assist a motorist. Rickey Carlyle, 53, of Boxholm was southbound on Highway 169 when he rear ended the patrol vehicle. Carlyle was transported by the Boone County Ambulance with minor injuries. It is suspected he was distracted by his cell phone. Damage to the patrol vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Charger, was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Carlyle’s 2010 Chevrolet Impala was estimated at $3,000. The accident is still under investigation.

Tuesday, Sept. 10: At 8:23 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 4 near 210th St north of Jefferson. Isaac Hoskins, 27, of Jefferson struck a deer with his 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, causing an estimated $500 damage to the pickup truck.

Monday, Sept. 9: At 4:23 pm a deputy assisted DHS with removing a child from a home in Grand Junction. At 9:26 pm a deputy investigated a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway on N Highway 4 near 190th St north of Jefferson. Cindy Wyatt, 40, of Fort Dodge was arrested for public intoxication*.

Sunday, Sept. 8: At 1:34 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Grand Junction. At 7:01 am a deputy investigated a burglary at the car wash in Grand Junction. At 7:33 pm a deputy investigated an assault in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Sept. 7: At 12:49 am a deputy investigated an assault on D Ave near 310th St in Willow Township. At 2:54 pm a deputy investigated complaint of an aggressive dog in Rippey.

Friday, Sept. 6: At 10:39 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in Grand Junction.

Thursday, Sept. 5: Routine activity reported.

Wednesday, Sept. 4: At 2:08 am a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 600 block of Hager St in Grand Junction. At 6:01 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 400 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 8:56 pm a deputy arrested Sheral Coppick, 61, of Carroll for operating while under the influence- second offense*. She was also cited for failure to maintain control.

Tuesday, Sept. 3: At 12:05 pm a deputy arrested Christopher Christian, 38, of Scranton in Grand Junction for driving while license barred*. At 7:52 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Grand Junction. At 7:57 pm a deputy investigated a theft in Grand Junction.

Monday, Sept. 2: At 6:31 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 120th St in Cedar Township. Holly Feldman, 48, of Manson struck a deer with her 2013 Toyota Avalon. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,500. At 8:13 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 900 block of Locust St in Scranton.

Sunday, Sept. 1: At 5:17 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on County Road P-33 (S Ave) near 240th St in Junction Township. At 12:41 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in Scranton. At 5:47 pm a deputy assisted the Dallas County sheriff’s office with locating a possible stolen vehicle in Grand Junction.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
