Changes made by the Iowa state legislature have combined the regular school and city elections in 2019. Rather than electing school board members in September and city officials in November as in past years, voters will go to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 5, to elect both school board members and city officials.

Nomination papers to place names on the November ballot may be submitted beginning Monday, Aug. 26, with a deadline of Thursday, Sept. 19, at 5 pm. School directors will submit their paperwork to the school board secretary while city candidates are required to submit their nomination papers to the Greene County auditor’s office at the courthouse in Jefferson.

This is a transition year for the Greene County school board, per the terms of the reorganization of the East Greene and Jefferson-Scranton districts. The board will decrease from seven members to five. There are two at-large seats to be elected. The terms of Steve Fisher, Sam Harding, John McConnell and Mark Peters are expiring.

Paton-Churdan has two school directors to elect to at-large seats. The terms of Eric Happe and David Palmer are expiring.

All cities in Greene County will elect mayors and council members. The terms of the following office holders are expiring in 2019:
• Churdan: Mayor Joleen Killeen; Council members Steve Killeen, Jason Minnehan and Buck H Kastle.
• Dana: Mayor Mandy Sims; Council member Karlan Langfitt.
• Grand Junction: Mayor Brock Lyons; Council members Meladee Graven and Alan Robinson.
• Jefferson: Mayor Craig Berry; Council members David Sloan and Matt Wetrich
• Paton: Mayor Steve Burrell; Council members Eric Geisler, Casey Kaufman and Judy Wilson.
• Rippey: Mayor Daniel Brubaker; Council members Ned Johnston, Richard Liebich and Jon Allen.
• Scranton: Mayor Cole Gustoff; Council members Julie McAleer and Ashley Squibb.
