In the neighborhood

Elizabeth and Andrea Pearson are visiting their grandparents Dale and Nancy Hanaman. They traveled to Des Moines to see the “Big Boy” steam engine when it was parked near Court Street and walked along the track and viewed the engine up close. They then went to Science Center of Iowa and enjoyed the interactive displays, including the program on the Iowa night sky with many different constellations.

Jean Borgeson accompanied Phyllis Bardole to Carroll, where they visited Phyllis’s sister, Valerie Ogren. It didn’t take long before Jean and Valerie started talking genealogy. Jean brought the Old Rippey Cemetery information along with pictures of some of their relatives’ gravestones Valerie had requested. Phyllis was very patient with our genealogy stories and their family history. The conversation soon turned to Duane and Ralph’s common ancestors in Sweden and finally ran out of time because the root beer floats were being served in the dining room, so we had to quit! The time went by quickly and it was an enjoyable afternoon.

We took a county road south on our way home. We missed E-57 but wound our way to 141 and back north. It was a beautiful drive with the sun starting to set on the rolling fields of corn and beans.
