Yard of the Month honors to Telleens

A dream came true two years ago for Heath and Samantha Telleen, whose yard and gardens were selected as the Jefferson Garden Club’s Yard of the Month for August.

The Telleens had experienced living on an acreage and were looking for that kind of setting when they moved to Jefferson in 2014. When Heath, a teacher at the Greene County High School, met fellow teacher Dale Smith and saw his home, the dream began.

When Heath and Samantha were able to purchase the fully remodeled home in a secluded setting at 1310 Riverside, “it was like moving to our dream acreage but with the benefits of being in town,” Heath said.

“When the Smiths were remodeling, they asked for our preferences because they knew we were going to buy the home,” said Samantha who is a teacher in the Greene County Middle School.

The multi-level decks are the perfect spot to appreciate the many brightly colored varieties of lilies, phlox, coneflowers and other plants started by Dale Smith and his wife Sondra. “We just thinned them, spread them out and rearranged a bit,” said Samantha. The flowers and the location were the “dreamy” part of the desire for this home.

The Telleens are looking forward to planting some sun-loving plants in the areas previously shaded by a large tree on the west side of the house. Maya Telleen is credited with doing a lot of watering of the flowers and plants on the property.
