Rams earn HOIAC honors in softball

Five Greene County softball players were recognized for postseason honors by the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference coaches.

Senior Megan Carey was named to the All-Conference first team. Senior Jenna Beyers and junior Izzy Bravard were both on the second team, with honorable mention honors going to freshman Carmyn Paup and eighth grader Emma Hoyle. The Rams were 5-9 in conference play and 10-18 overall.

Carey was also named to the 16-member Iowa Girls Coaches Association Class 3A Central All-District team.

A Paton-Churdan graduate, Carey played center field for the Rams and was the lead-off batter. Her average was .406. Carey scored 32 runs and had 44 put outs, the most on the team.

Bravard, second in the lineup, played first base. Her batting average was .365 and she was seven of eight in stealing bases. She had a .968 fielding percentage.

Beyers, also a P-C grad, played shortstop and pitched. She was named to the second team as a utility player. Beyers batted third and hit .341 with nine doubles, and the only Greene County home run this season.

Hoyle was the “clean up” hitter and led the team in runs batted in with 25 with a .259 average at the plate. She was the leading pitcher for the Rams.

Paup, a Paton-Churdan freshman, batted fifth and played third base. Her batting average for the season was .219 with 17 RBIs. She struck out only eight times in 73 at-bats.
