New fire alarm system at rec center

The control panel of the Greene County Community Center’s new fire alarm system.

A new Notifier fire alarm system was installed last week at the Greene County Community.

The new alarm replaces the Simplex system that was installed when the rec center was constructed in 1998. Jefferson park and recreation director Vicky Lautner explains that after Simplex did an annual inspection during the winter, she was told the system parts were no longer available and that the system would need to be replaced if it failed.

The park and recreation board looked at three bids for a new system and selected Chris Durlam of Durlam Electric to install a new Notifier CPU-320 SYS system.

Cost of the new alarm system was $17,000. The Greene County Community Foundation awarded the project $6,560 for the project. The remainder of the cost came from PACE and the city of Jefferson’s hotel/motel tax fund.

Midwest Alarm Service of Urbandale will inspect the new system annually.
“This is not something that I had planned for in the budget. It is really nice to have the Community Fundation to help fund a project like this,” Lautner said.
