The Greene County softball team came close to winning a pair of games but came up short to remain winless on the season.

The Rams came close to defeating the Jayettes of Perry, but the result was a 7-6 loss Tuesday night.

Emma Hoyle once again was the starter for the Rams, and she went 4 and 2/3 innings, giving up six runs (two of them earned) and striking out four batters. Jenna Beyers pitched the rest of the game in relief of Hoyle.

Greene County had 10 hits on the night, with three of those hits coming from Izzy Bravard. The Rams scored no earned runs.

The Jayettes had 11 hits on the night and capitalized on the Rams’ seven errors to take a 7-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, where the Rams could only score one run.

The Rams led 5-0 through five innings but fell to Roland-Story Wednesday night by a score of 6-5, with Beyers taking the pitching loss after giving up four earned runs in relief of starter Emma Hoyle.

Greene County had eight hits, with Tieryn Tucker driving in a run and recording two singles, and Karissa Stephenson recording a double.

It was a six-run sixth put R-S in front and sent the Rams to 0-8 on the season.

Up next for the Rams is a trip to play Glidden-Ralston.
