State soccer opener postponed due to weather

Greene County boys soccer fans will have to wait longer than expected to see the Rams play their first-ever state tournament game this week.

The IHSAA announced Wednesday that due to the recent rain and scheduling concerns, the first round of the Class 1A, 2A and 3A tournaments will take place on Friday instead of Thursday. So, the Rams’ matchup against Iowa City Regina will be Friday at 12:05 pm at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines.

The postponement also impacts potential semifinal and final matchups. If the Rams win Friday, they will play either North Polk or West Liberty Saturday at noon.

If the Rams were to make it to the finals, the game would not be played Sunday due to IHSAA policy or Monday due to previously-scheduled IGHSAU games happening at the facility. Instead, the game would be played Tuesday afternoon.
