Genealogy Society meets Saturday

The Greene County Genealogy Society will meet Saturday, June 1, at 10 am in the basement meeting room of the Jefferson public library. All are welcome and it is handicapped accessible. Arlene Johnson will have the program. Be prepared to bring your thinking caps as there is a quiz or two to take regarding genealogy.

Many of us have old fashioned photographs stuck away in a box somewhere and have no idea who the people in the pictures are. Unknown persons can sometimes be identified by matching the approximate age of children in family portraits to ages recorded in censuses.

Until about 1810 , women wore floor-length dresses, restricting corsets, crinolines and bustles. Around 1820, dresses began to grow fuller. With the beginning of World War One hemlines rose to reveal the ankle and the fashion shoe industry began.
