Scranton sesquicentennial update

The Scranton Sesqui parade Saturday, June 29, is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am, departing from the east side of the Community Center. The parade entry participation form is online at https://www.scrantonsesqui2019.com/, or register for the parade by filling out a form at city hall.

Gale and Lorrie Zellweger will announce the entries as they pass by.

Winners of the motorcycle, tractor, and car show divisions will receive commemorative sesqui medals. Enter the parade also to show off your vehicle!

A quilt will be raffled on the day of the celebration. Doris Tolsdorf, long-time Scranton area resident and quilter, had begun a quilt some years ago. Doris passed away in 2015, and the quilt was unfinished. Doris’s family gave the quilt pieces to the Scranton Heartfelt Quilters group, and they have finished the quilt. Watch for further information about where the quilt will be displayed and raffle tickets can be purchased.

Another item to be raffled will be one of the chainsaw artist’s pieces. Make sure you stop by to watch him at work and see his creations throughout the afternoon.

The Scranton play and alumni chorus event is still looking for participants. This program will be held in the Community Center gymnasium starting at 4:15 pm. Scranton alums who would like to participate in this event, are asked to email Bob and Cathie Reck at robertreck@yahoo.com.

Do you dabble in cake decorating? There will be a cake decorating contest at the celebration. Cakes will be judged at 3 pm that day with a winner(s) receiving a commemorative sesqui medal. Auction of the cakes will follow.

The DJ will play from 7 to 11 pm, which is two hours later than originally reported.

Stop by City Hall to see commemorative Scranton items available for sale now!

Additional details and events are still being finalized. Be watching for a more detailed list of events as we get into the month of June.

Events are all free to attend! Mark your calendar for June 29 as a day to spend in Scranton, celebrating our town and connecting or re-connecting with some of the nicest people anywhere!
