Rams end regular soccer season with win over Kuemper

Post season starts Monday in Grand Junction

The Ram boys soccer team finished the regular season Thursday with a 1-0 win in a lightning-shortened game against the Kuemper Knights in Carroll.

The game was called after one half. Coach Carl Behne said the game “was not how we would have liked to end the regular season, but a win is a win.”

The coach said it was a “hard-fought half.” The Knights played seven in the back to slow down Junior Gutierrez, the highest scoring player in 1A soccer with 46 goals on the season, and the Ram offense. Two Knights shadowed Gutierrez and five contended with Luis Velazco and the rest of the offense. Velazco is #10 in 1A with 24 goals scored.

Gutierrez scored the Rams’ lone goal  25 minutes into the match. The Rams took eight shots, four on goal. Cael Fisher had three saves.

The Rams finished the regular season at 11-5.

They open post season play hosting the Council Bluffs St Albert Falcons (2-15) for a Class 1A Substate #8 game Monday at 6:30 pm Karber Field in Grand Junction.
