Girls win title, boys second at Woodward-Granger track & field meet

The Greene County girls’ track team won the team title at the Woodward-Granger Invitational on Tuesday, April 23. The Rams accumulated 150 points while second place Nodaway Valley had 139.

Maddy Sigler struck gold in two events, winning the 100- and 400-meters. Brooklyn Olson won the shot put and discus. Brianna Osterson was first in the long jump.

The Rams won two relays. The shuttle hurdle relay with Melanie Doran, Lily Muir, Izzy Bravard and Maddy Van Pelt, while the quartet of Doran, Sigler, Makala Kafer, and Osterson won the 4 x 100 relay.

Junior Colby Kafer topped 22 feet in the long jump at the Woodward-Granger Relays Tuesday, April 23. He is just the 12th Iowa high school boy to top 22 feet this season. His 22’ 1” mark sets a new Greene County school record.

The Rams were edged out of first place by West Central Valley who scored 171 points to Greene County’s 170.

“Great effort tonight by the GC boys!” commended coach Chad Morton. “Lots of PR’s and one school record! Congratulations to Colby Kafer for smashing his own school record in the long jump! Looking forward the Drake Relays and the next couple of weeks!”

Also placing first were Carter Morton in the high jump and Tyler Miller in shot put.

Tyler Teeples, Morton, Brent Riley and Kafer were first in the 4×100 relay as were Teeples, Riley, Kafer and Jaxon Warnke in the 4×200. Bryce Stalder, Will Hansen, Jackson Morton, and Warnke won the shuttle hurdle relay.
