Relay for Life is Saturday

The 2019 Relay for Life of Greene County, with a tagline ”Find Your Super Power,” will be held this Saturday, April 27, at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.

“People find their own super powers in dealing with cancer, whether they’re survivors finding strength and determination, caregivers finding energy and patience, loved ones of those who have died from cancer finding a way to deal with grief, volunteers finding how best to serve, or researchers looking for new prevention or treatment options, the powers are nothing short of ‘super,” said Tori Riley, Relay event leadership team chair.

An important group is helping the community unleash super powers in the fight against cancer – Relay for Life sponsors.

Area businesses and organizations have provided generous cash and in-kind sponsorships, as well as items for the silent auction.

“These sponsors provide us some super power in a successful Relay,” said Tori Riley, Relay event leadership team chair. “Monetary sponsorships go into the fundraising total and in-kind sponsorships allow all the money raised at the Relay to go to the American Cancer Society for the battle against cancer.”

Relay for Life T-shirts are available at ShineOn Designs. The shirts are available to everyone, regardless of team participation. Persons who are on a Relay team can give their sales receipt to their team captain and the team will receive credit for the full $16 purchase price. If T-shirts are still available the day of the Relay, they can be purchased then.

“The Relay for Life draws people from all of Greene County and beyond, all with the common goals of celebrating with survivors, remembering those who lost the fight, and raising money for important cancer research,” said chair Riley. “The event leadership team is eager to see a big, generous crowd on Saturday.”

The 5K run/walk is the only portion of the Relay that may be affected by weather. All other Relay events will be held as planned, regardless of weather.
