Rams get fourth soccer win, second by 10-run rule

Cold, wet, windy weather didn’t cause a rescheduling of the boys varsity soccer game against Ballard in Huxley Thursday evening, but the Rams were able to cut the game short via the 10-goal rule.

The Rams were up 6-0 at halftime. They needed just 10 minutes of the second half to score four more goals to end the game with a 10-0 win over the Bombers.

Junior Gutierrez and Maynor Carballo made three goals apiece. Gutierrez had five shots, five shots on goal, and two assists, while Carballo took four shots and four SOGs. Luis Velazco took three shots, three SOGs, and made two goals. Alex Roberts and Yunior Carballo both took two shots and SOG and made one goal each. Austin Delp was credited with two shots, one SOG and one assist. Garret Tasler also made one shot.

Goalie Cael Fisher made three saves and allowed no goals in the 50-minute game.

“The weather conditions were very tough tonight. Twenty-30 mile an hour sustained winds on a very open field made the temps even colder as well. It wasn’t our best match of the year, but given the conditions, the boys played well and I am very proud of them,” coach Carl Behne said.

The Rams are now 4-0 on the season. They’ve scored a total of 36 goals and allowed only four goals by opponents.

The Rams start a home stretch on Monday in Grand Junction, hosting Harlan April 15, West Central Valley April 16, and Gilbert April 25.
