‘Reading is All the Buzz’ at 2019 Toddler Fest

The 14th annual “Toddler Fest” will be held Saturday, April 6, from 10 am to noon at the Greene County Community Center. Toddlers 2-5 years old and their families are invited to spend time together at this FREE event that encourages children to “Bee A Reader”. Play activities at Toddler Fest will include corn play, tumbling, bubbles, raking, tractor races, a bakery, a parachute, and much more. After reading books about Spot the dog for years, parents and children will get to actually meet Spot at Toddler Fest, along with local police officers, deputies, firemen, and emergency medical technicians.

Magician Rick Eugene will entertain with his magical balloon creations and magic tricks, too. Children can try their luck fishing at the camping site, taking care of a puppy at the vet clinic, shopping at the grocery store or checking out the flower shop station…these are just a few of the “come and go” activities available with over 20 different activity stations for children to visit!

There will be prize drawings and treats, and every child who attends will receive a free book from the Rotary Club of Jefferson. There’s also there’s a surprise in store for you at the duck pond, too!

Greene County public health will be available to assist parents with child passenger safety demonstrations. Parents are asked to call the Greene County Public Health office at 515-386-3228 to set up an appointment between 9:30 am – noon on Saturday, April 6..

The Greene County librarians encourage parents and children to check out the wonderful selection of books at their local libraries, too. “Toddler Fest provides a special time for you and your child to enjoy these fun activities and it’s all free,” said Amber Love, president of the Greene County Librarians Association. “Reading is another special bonding time you can enjoy with your child. Just 15 minutes every day reading to your child, encourages the development of essential pre-reading skills needed for your child to ‘Bee” a Reader!’ Be sure to ‘buzz’ on over on April 6 and join us for Toddler Fest!”

Toddler Fest is a free cooperative event sponsored by all six Greene County Libraries and the Greene County board of supervisors and supported by many community partners and volunteers. Each toddler will receive a book, refreshments, and book bag to fill with goodies while supplies last.
