Wuebker, Hoyle move on to state wrestling tourney

Greene County seniors Bryce Hoyle and Brock Wuebker qualified for the state wrestling tournament as district runners-up at the Class 2A District 4 tournament in Harlan Saturday.

Wuebker (170) fell by fall in 1:53 to fourth-ranked Jackson Kinsella of Creston in round one. Kinsella went on to win the weight class. Wuebker won by fall in 2:11 over Cade Forsyth of Winterset in the consolation match. That put Wuebker in line for a wrestle back against Carter Bendorf of Harlan. Bendorf had beaten Wuebker in the sectional tournament a week ago, but this time Wuebker won by fall in 4:17.

Hoyle (195) won a 9-0 major decision against Crew Howard of Clarinda. Hoyle was pinned by third-ranked Thomas Bentley of Red Oak in 61 seconds in the finals. Howard won the consolation match, making Hoyle the second place finisher.

It will be the first trip to the state tournament for both wrestlers.

Three other Ram grapplers wrestled in Harlan. Junior Joel Ward (160) finished in third place. He lost 7-0 in the first round to Justin McCunn of Red Oak. He pinned Brady Barringer of Winterset in 3:58 in the consolation round. He lost a wrestle back by a 13-2 major decision to Blake Liebe of Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Junior Braden Gallagher (106) and senior Clint Dennhardt (182) were both 0-2 on the day to finish fourth in their weight classes.
