Ram girls end 2018-19 season with loss to Tigers in regional opener

The Ram girls basketball team ended its season Saturday evening in the opening round of 3A Region 2 post-season play.

The Rams faced the Carroll Tigers, a team they had lost to 63-28 just a week earlier. The regional play wasn’t much different, with the Rams falling 61-26.

Izzy Bravard scored in the opening seconds of play. She made a free throw two minutes later after the Tigers had put up five points. Bravard’s three points were the Rams only points for the Rams until Brianna Habben made a basket eight minutes later. The score was then 19-5 in favor of the Tigers. Bravard made another basket and four of six free throws in the second quarter. The score at intermission was 39-11, with Bravard owning nine of the Rams’ points.

Habben was the first to score in the third quarter for a 39-13 score. The Rams managed to avoid a continuous clock until the last minute of the quarter, with field goals by Lily Muir, Bailey Cunningham and Bravard. The score was 54-19 when the Tigers’ had the margin to keep the clock running. Kassie Lamoureux made a pair of free throws before the quarter ended with the score 54-21.

The Rams put up five points in the final quarter, with Cunningham making a field goal and a free throw and Brianna Osterson making a pair of free throws.

For the game, Bravard scored 11 points, Cunningham scored five, Habben scored four and Osterson, Lamoureux and Muir scored two points each.

The Rams struggled with turnovers the entire season, both forced and unforced. Unofficially, the Rams committed 26 turnovers. The made eight of 30 shots from the floor for 26.6 percent, and 10 of 18 free throws for 55.5 percent. The Tigers committed 12 turnovers. They made 19 of 52 shots from the floor for 36.5 percent and 18 of 25 free throws for 72 percent. The Rams made no 3-point baskets while the Tigers made four.

The Rams ended their season at 1-21, with the win being against the Saydel Eagles, who also had just one win, that being over the Rams.

All the Rams can return next year; there were no seniors on the 2018-19 team.
