Area students eligiblefor IA Communications Alliance scholarships

The Iowa Communications Alliance is pleased to announce the availability of one college scholarship to high school seniors who live in member service territories, payable at $1,500 per year for up to four years (up to $6,000 total). Since Jefferson Telecom is an independent telephone company, area students are eligible for the scholarship dollars.

The mission of the Iowa Communications Alliance is to provide students from rural areas across Iowa with financial assistance to pursue higher education and to stay in rural Iowa after graduation. Applications are due March 13, with the winner selected and notified by May 1.

Also available is the Next Gen Scholars Program established by the Iowa Communications Alliance in response to member companies need for skilled technicians.

The process begins with recruitment, followed by an application and selection procedure. After the candidates are selected, the Iowa Communications Alliance, sponsoring company, Des Moines Area Community College and student split the tuition of the DMACC Network Technology/Telecom Data Communications program. The sponsoring company may offer a “mentoring” program including an internship opportunity while the student attends DMACC. Successful completion of the DMACC program usually qualifies graduates for an interview at the sponsoring company, though there is no guarantee of employment.

Applications are available at: https://ioca.memberclicks.net/scholarships. Students who want more information regarding either scholarship can contact Jefferson Telecom at 515-386-4141 or by email at info@jeffersontelecom.com.
