Kristin Wailes wins state VFW essay contest

Kristin Wailes, a seventh grade student in Greene County Middle School, was honored as the Iowa State winner of the Patriot’s Pen essay competition for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Iowa. Her essay first won in the District competition, allowing her to advance to the state contest.

Kristin and her parents, Andrea and Brett Wailes of Scranton, were guests at the Mid-Winter luncheon held Saturday in Des Moines. She read her essay to the group and received a rousing round of applause. She also received a pin and certificate.  ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
