Garden Club tells homes on Tour of Homes

“Renovation” and “new construction” are the catchwords for the homes on the 2018 Jefferson Garden Club Tour of Homes.

The four homes will be decorated for Christmas by December 1 and ready to display “Christmas Magic,” this year’s theme. The Tour of Homes takes place from noon to 4 pm.

Janet Sabus shares a tree of heirloom ornaments flanked by antique family toys in her guest room, all ready for the Garden Club Tour of Homes Dec.1.

Janet Sabus welcomes guests to her recently remodeled ranch-style home through a greenery laden, walled front entry garden. Janet’s love of family history is apparent in her decorating choices. The small guest room tree is decorated with heirloom ornaments and flanked by antique toys belonging to Janet and other relatives. Her office contains furniture belonging to her grandfather, accented by timeworn photographs. Other contemporary décor using Janet’s favorite color, blue, showcases the open plan living area and her bedroom.

Jim and Jacque Andrew’s residence is the product of renovating and adding a new kitchen and master suite to update Jim’s 1949 childhood home for the couple’s present use. Jacque uniquely uses the clan tartan in her holiday decorating, a tribute to the Andrew family’s Scottish heritage. Cherished finds from travels, heirloom ornaments and contemporary collections mingle with nature’s treasures for seasonal charm. Of special meaning is the Christmas Caroler ensemble displayed on the family piano and the many tree ornaments commemorating family milestones.

An extensive renovation planned by Jim and Ann Ober opened a spacious ranch overlooking a wooded ravine. A sprinkling of antiques throughout the home mixes flawlessly with more modern furnishings to provide a gracious welcome to guests. The importance to the Ober family of outdoor living space is obvious in the beautiful deck and patio at the rear of the home. The Obers celebrate the holidays with a collection of pencil trees and lighted garlands bestowing a warm and joyous air.

The spacious home recently built by Diana and Justin Towers overlooks a small lake and features stacked stone on the exterior as well as on the kitchen island. Diana has drawn inspiration from the home’s woodsy setting for her holiday decorating. An abundance of evergreen and other organic elements adorn the doors, walls and furniture in the home. A special tree in each of the three children’s bedrooms expresses their individual interests. This open modern family home is the perfect setting for select heirloom pieces and the beauty of natural decorations.
