Babysitting Basics course offered Nov. 16

Babysitting Basics, a course for Greene County youngsters in grades 5-8, will be held Friday, Nov. 16, from 8:30 am to 3 pm at the Greene County Extension office in Jefferson. Participants must attend all day in order to be certified. Cost is $30 for all registrations received by Nov.8; class size is limited. If there is room, additional registrations will be accepted at a cost of $40.

Youngsters will learn babysitting responsibilities and what employers expect, ideas to entertain children, how to handle emergencies, first aid and safety pointers, and how to care for children of different ages. Sessions will be led by Kayla Willms, county youth and 4-H coordinator, and other experts including a dietitian, health care providers, members of law enforcement and the fire department, and parents with young children to observe and interact with.

Registration forms were sent home with Greene County and Paton-Churdan 5-8 graders, or may be picked up at the Greene County Extension office at 104 W. Washington St in Jefferson. Persons who want more information can call 515-386-2138.
