Additional signage was placed last week by the county secondary roads crew on County Road E-53 at County Road P-14, east of Jefferson. The intersection was the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident in August when a northbound driver collided with a westbound motorcyclist. The motorcyclist, Donnie Daniel of Scranton, was killed.

Daniel’s mother, Deb Mohr, requested the county consider making the intersection a 4-way stop.

County engineer Wade Weiss explained an engineering study is needed to add stop signs. He instead had signs warning “Cross traffic does not stop” added to the stop signs on P-14, and he had them moved closer to the intersection to give motorists a better look at cross traffic .
He placed similar warning signs at all similar intersections in the county.

“I really think the Cross Traffic Does Not Stop signs will be a big help,” said Weiss. “I hope people will take a second or third look before they pull out on the roadway.
“We want our roads to be as safe as possible,” added Weiss.  ~The Scranton Journal
