Sheriff’s report – October 2018

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Wednesday, Oct. 31: At 7:33 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near County Road P-46 east of Grand Junction. Vicki Gustafson, 64, of Ogden struck a deer with her 2010 Ford Fusion, causing an estimated $4,000 damage to the vehicle. At 10:10 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1400 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township. At 10:53 pm a deputy investigated an assault that occurred in Grand Junction. At 1:10 pm a deputy investigated an assault that occurred near the Franklin Township Cemetery at Cooper. At 1:30 pm a deputy investigated drug paraphernalia that was found on County Road E-57 near Rippey. At 8:03 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 500 block of Highway 4 in Dawson Township. At 9:03 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 600 block of North St in Churdan.

Tuesday, Oct. 30: At 11:03 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township. At 1:19 pm a deputy investigated a call of a bald eagle possibly shot near 255th and P Ave southeast of the Jefferson municipal airport in Grant Township. The DNR was called and it was found that the eagle had hit a power line. At 6:22 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1800 block of Highway 30 east of Jefferson. At 9 pm a deputy assisted the Woodward police department with a search warrant in the 700 block of South 11th St in Grand Junction.

Monday, Oct.29: At 2:33 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief at the Rippey Cemetery. At 8:52 pm a deputy arrested Jerimiah Jordan, 30, of Grand Junction on an arrest warrant. At 10:04 pm a deputy arrested Travis Fincel, 44, of Grand Junction on a probation violation warrant.

Sunday, Oct. 28: At 3:14 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton.

Saturday, Oct. 27: At 9 am a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident at Hager St and 11th St in Grand Junction. Gerald Kennedy, 88, of Grand Junction was eastbound on Hager St. Teresa Durlam, 62, of Grand Junction was northbound on 11th St. Kennedy pulled out in front of Durlam and their vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Kennedy was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Damage to his 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was estimated at $1,000. Damage to Durlam’s 2007 Chevrolet HHR was estimated at $3,000. At 9:45 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 800 block of W Ave in Junction Township. At 7:37 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near County Road P-14 (J Ave) west of Jefferson. Erin Daniel, 35, of Jefferson struck a deer with her 2017 Chrysler Pacifica causing an estimated $1,500 in damage to the vehicle.

Friday, Oct. 26: At 1:35 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 8:36 am a deputy investigated a forgery in the 600 block of Head St in Churdan. At 12:46 pm a deputy investigated an extortion complaint in the 600 block of 18th St N. in Grand Junction. At 7:25 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. John Colle, 68, of Boone struck a deer with his 2005 Subaru Outback. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000. At 10:10 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 1000 block of 240th St in Jackson Township. The driver had left the scene.

Thursday, Oct. 25: At 11:33 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Highway 30 near R Ave east of Jefferson. At 4:03 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 500 block of Jefferson St in Scranton.

Wednesday, Oct. 24: At 6:55 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 at B Ave. Christopher Janning, 23, of Carroll struck a deer with a 2006 Pontiac G6. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,000. At 8:43 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 4 near 257th St south of Jefferson. David Dideriksen, 58, of Scranton struck a deer with a 2016 Dodge Promaster, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage to the vehicle. At 3:33 pm a deputy investigated a two-car accident on Highway 4 at 257th St. Jon Vanderpluym, 62, of Waukee was northbound on Highway 4 and crossed the center line, sideswiping a southbound vehicle driven by Ernest Newquist, 52, of Lincoln, NE. There were no injuries. Vanderpluym was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to his 2018 Dodge Promaster was estimated at $2,500. Damage to Newquist’s 2018 Ford van was estimated at $1,500. At 7:38 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on Highway 25 near 300th St in Willow Township. Kenton Reece, 23, of Perry lost control of his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The Scranton fire department and Greene County EMS responded and transported a passenger of the vehicle with minor injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

Tuesday, Oct. 23: At 12:08 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 125th St near Highway 141 in Paton Township. Dustin Smith, 25, of Somers struck a deer with his semi tractor-trailer. There was no damage to the truck. At 1:35 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 900 block of Linn St in Scranton.

Monday, Oct. 22: At 5:36 m a deputy investigated a 911 hang up in the 1800 block of T Ave in Franklin Township.

Sunday, Oct. 21: At 5:09 am a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 11:52 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 2:42 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 200 block of Anyer St in Dana. At 8:03 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near Oakland Ave east of Jefferson. Ryan Cooklin, 40, of Jefferson struck a deer with his 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck. Damage to the truck was estimated at $8,500. At 8:18 pm a deputy arrested Travis Fincel, 43, of Grand Junction on a arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance- third offense, theft- fourth degree and possession of drug paraphernalia*.

Saturday, Oct. 20: At 10:19 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 600 block of State St in Scranton. At 11:42 am a deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrolman with an arrest on Highway 30 at Pioneer Ave east of Jefferson. At 4:59 pm a deputy arrested Nathaniel Biggart, 21, of Grand Junction on an arrest warrant for unauthorized use of credit card (two counts)*.

Friday, Oct. 19: At 12:14 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 400 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 4:11 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a theft complaint. At 1:22 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on County Road E-39 (210th St) and Apple Ave. Melvin Kruger, 76, of Churdan was northbound on Apple Ave. Dustin Bridgewater, 22, of Jefferson was driving on E-39 (direction of travel not given). He failed to yield the right of way and struck Kruger’s vehicle. There were minor injuries in the accident. Bridgewater was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Damage to the 2015 Dodge Caravan he was driving was estimated at $2,000. Damage to Kruger’s 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was estimated to exceed value. At 2:38 pm a deputy assisted with a combine stuck in the mud and on a power line on 160th St County Road P-46 (X Ave) in Paton Township. At 4:06 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 2000 block of T Ave in Washington Township. At 7:04 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1900 block of County Road E-18 (130th St) in Paton Township. At 7:14 pm a deputy arrested James Pepples, 32, of Scranton on a Carroll County arrest warrant for assault*. At 10:48 pm a deputy and the Grand Junction fire department responded to a vehicle fire in the 500 block of W. Hager St in Grand Junction. A 1998 Dodge Dakota was a total loss.

Thursday, Oct. 18: At 12:57 pm a deputy and the Rippey fire department responded to a ditch fire in the 2000 block of 295th St in Washington Township. At 6:05 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1000 block of Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 8:57 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 9:33 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 700 block of S. 11th St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Oct 17: At 10:13 am a deputy took a theft report in the 700 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 2:10 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 8:04 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 177th St in Kendrick Township. Kim Winkelman, 57, of Scranton struck a deer. Damage to her 2007 Ford F150 pickup truck was estimated at $3,500.

Tuesday, Oct. 16: At 9:41 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 2:42 pm a deputy assisted with hogs out on Highway 144 near 160th St in Paton Township. At 9:14 pm a deputy assisted with a injured dog on Highway 30 near 18th Street in Grand Junction.

Monday, Oct. 15: At 6:22 am a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle on 280th St near P Ave in Franklin Township. At 9:09 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of Eaton Ave in Highland Township. At 11:08 am a deputy investigated a theft at the Grand Junction Laundromat. At 1:28 pm a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle on 300th St and Terrace Ave in Washington Township. At 5:13 pm a deputy investigated a car in the ditch on L Ave and 245th St in Jackson Township. At 5:53 pm a deputy was informed of a hay bale fire in the 200 block of K Ave in Highland Township. Churdan Fire responded and put the bails out. At 9:58 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD in the 700 block of N. Wilson. They were trying to locate Dustin Hill, 25, who escaped from a residential facility.

Friday, Oct.12: At 4:28 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 800 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 9:29 pm a deputy investigated a stolen Chevy truck in the 500 block of 2nd St in Rippey. At 9:54 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 1800 block of County Road E-53 west of Grand Junction. Michael Wilson, 62, Rippey struck a deer with his 2013 Ford Taurus. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,500.

Thursday, Oct. 11: At 8:08 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault that occurred in Scranton. At 10:05 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest in the 700 block of N. Cedar St in Jefferson.

Wednesday, Oct 10: At 3:15 am a deputy assisted the Dallas County sheriff’s office with a domestic assault near Rippey. At 11:50 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 200 block of Main St in Paton. At 12:14 pm a deputy investigated an animal abandonment complaint in the 100 block of Harding Rd in Churdan. At 10:46 pm a deputy assisted the Ames police department with a theft near Grand Junction.

Tuesday, Oct. 9: At 4:14 am a deputy assisted the Perry police department with a male subject on 335th St and D Ave in Boone County. At 7:38 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1500 block of 120th St in Paton Township. At 7:48 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 200 block of S. 7th St in Grand Junction. At 2:43 pm a deputy investigated found property on the roadway near 19th St and Main St in Grand Junction. At 3:44 pm a deputy assisted the Rippey fire department with a small electrical fire at the Heartland Coop in Rippey. At 4:30 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 800 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 7:56 pm a deputy assisted with roadway flooding on 140th St just west of Churdan.

Monday, Oct. 8: At 8:23 am a deputy was called for a stray cat stuck in a mouse trap in the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey. At 2:12 pm a deputy arrested Jason Smits, 36, of Grand Junction for a Audubon County arrest warrant for failure to appear. At 4:08 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 700 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 5:52 pm a deputy took a call of too many stray cats in Grand Junction. At 7:01 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Oct. 7:  At 2 pm the sheriff and deputies conducted a search warrant at 807 Hager St East in Grand Junction. A stolen vehicle and stolen license plates were recovered. At 3:26 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1000 block of E. Sandoe St in Grand Junction. At 3:40 pm a deputy checked for a wanted person in the 700 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 6:01 pm a deputy investigated a report of a stolen vehicle in Grand Junction. At 6:05 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dead animal in a box being placed in a yard in the 300 block of N. 13th St in Grand Junction. At 11:32 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 2200 block of M Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 11:37 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1000 block of E. Sandoe St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Oct. 6: At 9:01 am a deputy was called to horses out in the 2100 block of Q Ave in Franklin Township. At 6:36 pm a deputy tried to put cattle back in the fence in the 1700 block of 170th St in Hardin Township. At 8:57 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey.

Friday, Oct. 5: At 6:40 pm a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle on Elm St in Scranton. At 7:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of barking dogs in the 500 block of Main St in Paton. At 7:30 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1000 block of Sandoe St in Grand Junction. At 8:09 pm a deputy removed a snake from a residence in the 400 block of Pearl St in Farlin.

Thursday, Oct. 4: At 6:41 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Scranton. At 7:41 am a deputy assisted with a dog running at large in Scranton. At 8:08 am a deputy assisted with putting cattle back in the fence on 190th Street near County Road P-14 in Bristol Township. At 1:59 pm a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint on Highway 30 near Grand Junction. At 2:23 pm a deputy investigated a phone scam in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: At 3:52 am a deputy investigated a 911 hang up in the 300 block of Wise St in Paton. At 10:18 am a deputy investigated an alarm in the 1000 block of E. Sandoe St in Grand Junction. At 6:16 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 2000 block of T Ave in Franklin Township. At 7:46 pm a deputy and the Jefferson and Paton fire departments responded to fire in the 1700 block of 170th St in Junction Township.

Tuesday, Oct. 2: At 8:29 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 300 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction. At 1:09 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 400 block of 16th St N in Grand Junction. At 2:58 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 200 block of 175th St in Kendrick Township.
