Sheriff’s report – September 2018

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Sunday, Sept. 30: At 2:35 am a deputy investigated an assault with a gun in the 200 block of Main St in Paton. At 11:42 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Dana. At 2:44 pm a deputy investigated a one-vehicle accident on 228th St and V Ave in Junction Township. Slater Kirk, 18, of Grand Junction lost control of a 2008 GMC Truck and rolled it in the ditch. There were no injuries. Damage to the vehicle exceeded value. Kirk was cited failure to reduce speed to a reasonable and proper speed. At 6:53 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 at Oakland Ave east of Jefferson. Cheryl Nogel, 58, of Ames struck a deer, causing an estimated $3,000 in damage to her 2016 Toyota Highlander.

Saturday, Sept. 29: At 8:08 am a deputy assisted an ambulance with a male subject who fell off the overpass on Highway 30 east of Grand Junction. At 10:18 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of 11th St in Grand Junction. Katelyn Fees, 21, of Grand Junction was arrested for assault- simple*. At 8:41 pm a deputy investigated a driving complaint on Highway 4 near 250th St south of Jefferson. Jon Harvey, 51, of Minnesota was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence- third or subsequent offense*. He was also cited for no valid driver’s license.

Friday, Sept. 28: At 10:05 am Travis Straight, 24, of Ralston was arrested on federal arrest warrants for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute marijuana*.

Thursday, Sept. 27: At 12:08 am a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 400 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 9:15 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 2300 block of 100th St in Paton Township.

Wednesday, Sept. 26: At 12:07 am a deputy investigated a domestic abuse assault in Scranton. At 8:50 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint on County Road E-53 (237th St) near Kirkwood Ave in Jackson Township. At 1:08 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 200 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, Sept. 25: At 6:40 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 1000 block of H Ave in Bristol Township. At 6:48 pm a deputy assisted with a German shepherd the was found in the 800 block of C Ave in Kendrick Township. At 7 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 200 block of W. Main St in Grand Junction. At 10:36 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way in Jefferson.

Monday, Sept. 24: At 10:29 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of 16th St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Sept. 23: At 1:44 am a deputy arrested Jacob Fisher, 27, of Webster City for operating while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.* At 8:48 am a deputy assisted with putting cattle back in the fence in the 500 block of D Ave in Cedar Township. At 12:35 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 900 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 5:37 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint on the railroad tracks near J Ave in Jackson Township. At 7:55 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 600 block of 14th St in Grand Junction. At 10:38 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 100 block of Sunset Drive in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Sept. 22: At 12:31 am a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 100 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 8:06 am a deputy assisted with putting a horse back in its lot in the 1100 block of 330th St in Franklin Township.

Friday, Sept. 21: At 6:30 am the sheriff and deputies were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, ATF, and the Mid Iowa Drug Task Force with executing a search warrant at 705 E. Main St in Grand Junction. Controlled substances and a firearm were located. At 6:44 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on Highway 144 near 260th St in Junction Township. Natalie Payan, 16, of Rippey lost control of her 2000 Toyota Camry and went into the east ditch, causing an estimated $500 in damage to the vehicle. At 7:56 am a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 600 block of North St in Churdan.

Thursday, Sept. 20: At 8:27 am a deputy investigated an alarm in the 200 block of 240th St in Scranton Township. At 3:40 pm a deputy assisted with a German shepherd that was found in the 2200 block of M Ave in Greenbrier Township. The dog was taken to the animal holding facility. At 3:57 pm a deputy, the Jefferson and Scranton fire departments and Greene County EM responded to a field fire and combine fire on 310th St near M Ave in Greenbrier Township.

Wednesday, Sept. 19: At 1 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with juveniles at Washington Park. At 1:39 am a deputy investigated an alarm at Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction. At 6:56 am a deputy investigated an alarm in the 200 block of Main St in Paton. At 5:59 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 300 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 8:11 pm a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 182nd St.

Tuesday, Sept. 18: At 12:30 am a deputy investigated a rollover accident on U Ave and 300th St in Washington Township. A 2010 Ford Taurus was found in the ditch on its side. Damage to the vehicle exceeded value. The vehicle was unattended with no driver nearby. The deputy went to the registered owner’s residence and talked to the owner. The car was found to be stolen. At 9:27 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a runaway at Greene County Elementary. At 9:02 pm a deputy investigated a railroad crossing on County Road N-58 (Apple Ave) near Ralston.

Monday, Sept. 17: At 9:19 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 900 block of Hager St in Grand Junction. At 3:07 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 100 block of W. Percival St in Grand Junction. At 4:11 pm a deputy assisted a Jefferson PD officer with a domestic assault in the 700 block of W. Sunset Rd. At 5:30 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest at Greene County Medical Center.

Sunday, Sept. 16: At 4:30 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a theft at Cobblestone Inn. At 10:30 am a deputy investigated a theft of a road sign on County Road E-18 near Paton. At 9 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 4 near 210th St north of Jefferson. Terri Nation, 60, of Fort Dodge struck a deer with a 2018 Audi Prestige. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,500.

Saturday, Sept.15: At 1:58 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an assault at Wild Rose Casino. At 8:30 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident in the 2300 block of 210th St in Junction Township. Thomas Johnson, 70, of Ogden lost control of his 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer. There were no injuries. All the airbags in the vehicle deployed; damage to the vehicle exceeded value. Johnson was cited for failure to maintain control and a registration violation. At 11:14 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 2100 block of 337th St in Washington Township. At 2:08 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 100 block of 3rd St in Rippey. At 4:46 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Friday, Sept. 14: At 6:26 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 400 block of 18th St in Grand Junction. At 7:01 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 2100 block of 337th St in Washington Township.

Thursday, Sept. 13: At 6:22 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with two persons at Kelso Park. At 1:28 pm a deputy put four horses back in a lot on Linwood Ave County Road E-53 west of Jefferson.

Wednesday, Sept. 12: At 3:28 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 8:05 pm a deputy investigated a vicious dog complaint in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton.

Tuesday, Sept. 11: At 4:30 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 800 block of 310th St in Greenbrier Township. At 3:49 pm a deputy investigated a report of illegal passing of a school bus on County Road E-53 at Highway 144 at Grand Junction. At 6:31 pm a deputy investigated a horse running at large on R Ave near Spring Lake in Hardin Township. At 8;53 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in Grand Junction.

Monday, Sept. 10: At 7:19 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 1300 block of K Ave in Jackson Township. At 7;14 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 at County Road P-14 (J Ave). Jennifer Hughes, 34, of Carroll struck a deer with her 2012 Nissan causing an estimated $2,500 damage to the vehicle.

Sunday, Sept. 9: At 2:41 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on County Road P-14 (I Ave) near 170th St in Bristol Township. Marissa Hoyle, 20, of Lohrville lost control of her 2007 Pontiac Vibe and went into the ditch. Hoyle was cited for failure to maintain control. There was no damage to the vehicle. At 8:20 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a hit and run accident on Cedar Street. At 5:48 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault the 600 block of B Ave in Cedar Township. At 6:53 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1100 block of R Ave in Hardin Township.

Saturday, Sept. 8: At 8:41 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 Block of W. Paton St in Paton. At 9:15 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 900 block of Main St in Grand Junction. At 3:30 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 500 block of E. Clark St in Jefferson.

Friday, Sept. 7: At 11:50 am a deputy assisted DHS with a call at Greene County Middle School. At 2:59 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 400 block of Madison St in Scranton. At 5:17 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of 5th St in Rippey. At 5:40 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey. At 5:51 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 200 block of Adaza St in Adaza. At 9:53 pm a deputy assisted with a accident at Highways 4 and 30.

Thursday, Sept.6: At 12:57 pm a deputy investigated an attempted theft in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 7:01 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of North 16th St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Sept. 5: At 8:16 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to a Scranton city park. At 12:09 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 2000 block of T Ave in Washington Township.

Tuesday, Sept. 4: At 1:45 am a deputy investigated a report of coyotes attaching livestock near Dana. At 1:49 pm the sheriff, deputies, and the Jefferson PD conducted a search warrant in the 700 block of N. Cedar St in Jefferson. Suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located. There are charges pending in this case.

Monday, Sept. 3: At 2:06 am a deputy reported a crossing arm malfunction on the railroad in Paton. At 11:09 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of Main St in Grand Junction. At 3:03 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a trespass complaint in the 300 block of N. Vine St. At 5:25 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 800 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 5:50 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal hunting on 270th Street near L Ave in Greenbrier Township.
Sunday, Sept. 2: “Nothing to report” per the sheriff.

Saturday, Sept. 1: At 6:54 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 700 block of State St in Scranton.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
