Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 20

In Greene County district court Hanna Kristine Meinecke, 31, of Lakewood, CO, was sentenced to two days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail time was suspended and she was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Meinecke paid a $315 fine with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge, and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. Court costs were $136. A companion case in magistrate court in which Meinecke was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. No court costs were assessed in that case. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. Priest Delray Wilson, 39, of Fort Dodge was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana (serious misdemeanor), amended from possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the jail time he serves. He must also undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Wilson was fined $325 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. He must also pay $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. Justin Bryant Rule, 28, of Clay Center, KS, was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge after he pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving, amended from operating while intoxicated- first offense. Court costs were $160. (Sentencing: McCarville)

David Hoyle, 33, of Churdan was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- second offense. All but seven days of the prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the jail time he serves. He must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Hoyle was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $100 domestic abuse surcharge and $131.50 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Tonya Lynne Mitchels, 30, of Paton was sentenced to 60 days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. All but two days was suspended and she was placed on informal probation for one year. She must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time she serves. In lieu of the jail time she may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program. She must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation she has already undergone, and she must complete a community college drinking drivers school. Mitchels was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. She must pay $600 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty during the week ending Sept. 20 as follows: Jody Lyn Schad, 43, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- second offense, three counts of burglary- third degree (motor vehicle), and theft- second degree, and in a separate case, theft- first degree; Leah Meredith Kurt, 25, of Ames, possession of methamphetamine; Robert Alan Fry, 58, of Jefferson, criminal mischief- second degree, interference with official acts causing bodily injury, and driving while license revoked; Hayley Lynn Brown, 26, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana, and in a second case, unlawful possession of prescription drug; and James Michael Shutts, 51, of Bell Plaine, OWI- first offense. Trial dates were set for Oct. 30 in every case.

Cases were initiated in Greene County district court as follows: Travis Christopher Fincel, 43, of Grand Junction, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; and Jerry Dean Barker, 54, of Grand Junction, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, and possession of a firearm as a felon.
