Boys finish first at Panorama Invitation cross country meet
The Greene County middle school cross country team opened it season with a first place finish for the boys. Three runners finished in the top 10 at the Panorama Invitational Thursday. The girls finished seventh of eight teams that had enough runners for a team score.
Dakota Mobley finished second with a time of 13:27, just 16 seconds behind the first place finisher. Ethan Frederick finished fifth in 14:08 and Lucas Jablonski finished 10th in 14:27.
Other places and times for the boys were Jose Valazco, 14th, 14:42; Kolby Angell, 23rd, 15:23; Cade Silbaugh, 37th, 16:45; Chad Maston, 51st, 17:37; and Ethan Coil, 87th, 23:26.
Team scores for the boys were Greene County 47, Ogden 72 Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center 85, Madrid 103, Woodward-Granger 117, Nodaway Valley 127, Van Meer 177, and Ankeny Christian Academy, 186.
Olivia Shannon paced the girls with a 15th place finish in 17:06. Other places and times were Autumn Stevens, 41, 19:17; Bella Linberg, 46, 19:45; Sadie Gilbertson, 54, 20:33; and Madison Kinsey, 63, 23:15.
Team scores for the girls were Earlham 32, Van Meter 47, West Central Valley 108, Panorama 111, Colo-NESCO 119, Nodaway Valley 123, Greene County 166, and Ogden 171.
Eight schools had incomplete teams.
Members of the cross country team are all eighth graders except Angell and Coil.
“While it was a hot day and a very tough, hilly course, I was very happy with how every single runner ran and competed,” coach Mary Pedersen said.
Volleyball – The seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams played Nevada Sept. 13, with the seventh graders on the road and the eighth graders at home.
The seventh grade team won three games and lost three. Scores for the A team were 19-21, 7-21, 22-20. Scores for the B team were 21-18, 20-22, 21-16. Both teams are 1-2 in matches.
The A team is 4-5 in games and the B team is 3-6.
The eighth grade team won all six games. A team scores were 22-20, 21-16, 21-10. B team scores were 21-8, 21-3, 21-12.
The A team is 2-1 in matches and 6-3 in games. The B team is 2-1 n matches and 7-2 in games.
