Ram v’ball team drops HOIAC opener to S. Hamilton Hawks

The Greene County varsity volleyball game lost all three sets when it hosted the South Hamilton Hawks in Heart of Iowa play in the middle school gym Sept. 6. Set scores were 16-25, 14-25, 17-25.

In the first set, the Rams fell behind but took at 13-12 lead before the Hawks once again took the lead. The Hawks scored the last seven points of the set. The Hawks built an 11 point lead early in the second set en route to the 14-25 final score. The Rams held a 10-7 lead in the third set before the Hawks scored eight points in a row to take the lead and continue to the win.

Aubrey Heupel led at the service line, making good on eight of nine serves for 89 percent. Sophie Havens and Kara Reed were both five of six for 83 percent and Lilly Muir was seven for nine for 78 percent. As a team the Rams served at 79 percent.

Heupel had seven digs and 13 assists. Havens led in  kills with six, while Luisa Slompo had five kills.

The Rams are 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

The team will be Eldora for the South Hardin tournament Saturday.
