Criminal justice process topic of info session

The criminal justice system and its processes is the topic of an informational panel discussion slated for Thursday, Sept. 6, on the second floor of the Jefferson municipal building.

The event is coordinated by the Greene County Coalition Against Domestic Violence to educate the public on the criminal justice process. The coalition has determined there are misunderstandings of how the legal system works. The goal is to shed light on the steps in the criminal justice system, the roles of each component in the system, and who fills those roles.

There will be a representative on the panel for each step in the process including local law enforcement, the assistant county attorney, the Greene County magistrate, a district court judge, a probation officer, and members of ACCESS (Assault Care Center Extending Shelter & Support).

There will be a question and answer period following the panel discussion.

The free event will begin at 6:30 pm and end at 8. Refreshments will be available. All are welcome. The municipal building is handicap accessible.
