Trucker dumps scrap metal on Hwy 30 in one-vehicle accident

A trucker hauling scrap metal on Highway 30 rolled his truck and dumped scrap metal on the roadway this morning, with enough mess to close the road to traffic early this morning.

According to Greene County sheriff Jack Williams, he, deputies, Greene County EMS, and the Jefferson fire and police departments responded to the accident near L Ave, two miles west of Jefferson, at 3:58 am.

Terry Smith, 56, of Lake View was eastbound when he lost control of the 2004 Peter Built tractor-trailer. The rig slid on its side, dumping the contents of the trailer. Smith was transported to Greene County Medical Center with possible injuries.

The road was closed for several hours for clean-up, but one lane was available for traffic by about 8:30 am.

Smith was cited for failure to maintain control.
