Ram v’ball splits triangular to open season

The Greene County volleyball team opened the 2018 season Thursday splitting a triangular in the middle school gym in Jefferson.

The Rams topped the Perry Blue Jays 25-13, 25-21. The Jayettes, after losing the first set by a wide margin, came back in the second and played to a 16-16 tie. Greene County was up 22-21 before scoring the last three points to win.

The Rams lost in three sets to the Gaels of St Edmond of Fort Dodge. Scores were 24-26, 25-15, 9-15. The Rams were ahead 14-11 in the first set but the Gaels took a 22-17 lead. The Rams rallied and tied the score at 23 and again at 24 before the Gaels scored the final two points. The Rams dominated in the second set, padding a 16-8 lead to the 25-15 final score. In the third set, the Rams were ahead 9-7, but the Gaels scored the last eight points to win the set and the match.

This is the first season for Chris Heisterkamp as Ram head coach.
