Reminder: Tall corn reduces visibility at intersections

Motorists in rural areas are reminded to be cautious at intersections where corn is planted. “Every intersection that has corn is a problem,” county sheriff Jack Williams said at the county supervisors meeting Monday.

His comment followed county engineer Wade Weiss telling the supervisors he had already been asked by coworkers of Donnie Daniel about placing a memorial at the intersection of County Roads E-53 and P-14 between Jefferson and Scranton.

Daniel, 46, of Scranton was westbound on E-53 last Thursday evening driving a motorcycle when he was killed by a driver northbound on P-14.

Board chair John Muir said there have been concerns about visibility at that intersection in the past.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident and has released no details about possible causes for the accident or charges against the other driver.
