Round table discussion will focus on agriculture

John Delaney

Congressman John Delaney, the first declared Democratic candidate for president, will hold a round table Thursday, Aug. 9, at 2:30 pm at the Milwaukee depot in Jefferson. The discussion topic will be farming, rural towns, and the agriculture economy.

Delaney will be joined by J.D. Scholten, Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives from the Fourth Congressional District; Tim Gannon, Democratic candidate for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture; and David Weaver, Democratic candidate for Iowa’s 47th House District.

Area farmers will also be part of the discussion. Chuck Offenburger will be moderator.
Delaney, a Congressman from Maryland, declared his candidacy for president a year ago. He has made a dozen trips to Iowa, has had television advertising in the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids markets, and has a campaign office in Iowa. He is an attorney and entrepreneur, having built two publicly traded businesses from the ground up.

According to Delaney’s website, he’s running for president because “the American people are far greater than the sum of our political parties. It is time for us to rise above our broken politics and renew the spirit that enabled us to achieve the seemingly impossible.”
