Sheriff’s report – July 2018

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, July 31: Routine activity reported.

Monday, July 30: At 9:02 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 200 block of W. Paton St in Paton. At 1:23 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint at Spring Lake Park. At 2:02 pm a deputy investigated a theft complaint in the 1900 block of T Ave in Washington Township. At 3:09 pm a deputy assisted with cows out on 252nd St east of Neola Ave in Grant Township.

Sunday, July 29: At 6:06 pm a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint in the 400 block of E. Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 6:36 pm a deputy apprehended a female in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. Takyla Pittman, 28, of Perry was arrested for two active warrants in Greene County for revocation of probation*.

Saturday, July 28: Routine activity reported.

Friday, July 27: At 6:49 am a deputy investigated a one-vehicle accident that occurred in the area of X Ave and 120th St in Paton Township. The driver of the vehicle, Michael Alcozer, 33, of Jefferson was not present but did call the Greene County sheriff’s office later for it was towed to Fort Dodge. The accident occurred at approximately 2 am when Alcozer was southbound on X Ave and swerved to avoid hitting a deer. The vehicle entered the east ditch and struck a field drive, went airborne, rolled and stopped on its wheels in the ditch. Alcozer was not injured. His 2015 Jeep Cherokee was a total loss. Mid-Iowa Towing had removed the vehicle from the scene. At 10:18 am a deputy assisted Jefferson PD with apprehending a male subject with warrants in Greene County. At 2:24 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with locating a male for violation of no contact order in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. At 7:24 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in 1600 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Jackson Township. At 8:01 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the area of O Ave and 150th St in Dawson Township.

Thursday, July 26: Routine activity reported.

Wednesday, July 25: At 6:10 am a deputy assisted with cattle out in the area of the 300 block of Highway 4 (I Ave) in Highland Township. At 7:52 am a deputy investigated a theft of property in the 1700 block of 180th St in Grant Township. At 11:32 pm a deputy investigated an alarm in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, July 24: At 12:09 am a deputy responded to a noise complaint in the area of County Road P-14 (J Ave) and County Road E-53 (240th St). At 2:02 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an individual trying to locate a campsite during RAGBRAI in Jefferson. At 7:44 am deputies investigated a two-vehicle accident on County Road E-18 (130th St) just east of P Ave in Dawson Township. Lucas Joseph Pontius, 19, of Ogden was westbound driving a 1994 Buick Regal Sport when a bump in the road caused the back left tire to lock up. Pontius lost control of the vehicle and entered the south ditch, where he struck a Midland Power Cooperative utility box and a WCCTA telephone/cable box before coming to a stop. Sophia Ponce-Rhum, 53, of Round Rock, TX, was also eastbound, driving a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck. She swerved left to avoid Pontius’ vehicle was her vehicle was still struck. There were no injuries reported. Damage to Pontius’ vehicle exceeded value at an estimated $2,500. Damage to Ponce-Rhum’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Damage to the utility box was estimated at $2,500 and damage to the telephone/cable box was estimated at $500. Pontius’ vehicle was towed from the scene. At 11:39 am deputies assisted in looking for children who had become separated from their party during RAGBRAI. They were located shortly after. At 2:59 pm a deputy investigated damage to a bicycle in the 300 block of N. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 6:23 pm a deputy investigated an abandoned 911 emergency call in the area of the 1100 block of L Ave in Bristol Township.

Monday, July 23: At 8:15 am a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 300 block of Highway 4 (I Ave) north of Churdan. At 2:20 pm deputies assisted with locating a juvenile female who was separated from her family during RAGBRAI between Coon Rapids and Scranton.

Sunday, July 22: At 8:19 pm a deputy assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with trying to locate a stolen vehicle.

Saturday, July 21: At 1:15 am  a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 700 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 2:48 pm the sheriff, deputies, fire departments from Scranton and Jefferson, and Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 30 at Eaton Ave east of Scranton. Jackie Hawthorne, 18,of Scranton was westbound driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am when she crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 2012 Ford Fusion driven by Tonya Ramsey, 26, of Sac City. Ramsey’s vehicle rolled to its roof; she had to be extricated from the vehicle. There were no major injuries in the accident. Both vehicles were totaled. Hawthorne will be cited for driving left of center. At 4:24 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1100 block of R Ave in Grant Township. At 5:09 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of Bell St in Churdan. At 10:58 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 600 block of Lincoln St in Scranton.

Wednesday, July 18: At 6:56 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on County Road P-14 (J Ave) near County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township. At 7:48 am a deputy investigated fraud in the 500 block of Main St in Grand Junction. At 9:51 am a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with trying to locate a subject in Scranton.

Tuesday, July 17: At 6:26 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident. The driver of the car struck a horse in the 700 block of County Road N-65 (D Ave) in Kendrick Township. The driver (not named in the sheriff’s daily report) had left the scene and reported the accident over the phone.

Monday, July 16: At 11:08 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 700 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 6:51 pm a deputy assisted DHS with a search of a residence in the 800 block of High St in Churdan.

Sunday, July 15: At 12:02 am a deputy investigated a complaint of youngsters on the railroad tracks near Jordan Ave west of Jefferson.

Saturday, July 14: At 9:42 pm a deputy, Greene County Emergency Medical Services and Grand Junction rescue responded to 305th St near T Ave in Washington Township for a pedestrian that was struck by a car. Tonya Mitchels, 30, of Paton was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu when she struck with the mirror on her car a pedestrian who was fishing off the bridge. The pedestrian sustained only minor injuries. Mitchels was arrested for operating under the influence- first offense*.

Friday, July 13: At 9:38 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 144 near County Road E-53 at Grand Junction. Capitola Tucker,80, of Grand Junction struck a deer with her 2014 Buick Lacrosse, causing an estimated $1,800 in damage to the vehicle.

Thursday, July 12: At 3:29 pm a deputy investigated a theft of a golf cart at The Hill golf course. At 6:17 pm a deputy located a road blow up on R Ave near County Road E-18 (130th St) in Dawson Township.

Wednesday, July 11: At 7:52 pm a deputy located a blow-up on the roadway in the 700 block of  County Road N-65 (D Ave) in Cedar Township. Secondary roads fixed it.

Tuesday, July 10: At 7:05 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of I Ave in Bristol Township.

Monday, July 9: At 2:49 pm a deputy tried to locate the owner of a horse that was running loose in the 2100 block of Q  Ave in Franklin Township.

Sunday, July 8: At 10:21 am a deputy located a stolen motorcycle out of Perry in the 2200 block of 330th St in Washington Township. At 12:51 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 700 block of Eagle St, Scranton. At 8:57 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 300 block of W. Hager St, Grand Junction.

Saturday, July 7: At 9:33 am a deputy assisted the Perry fire department and Boone fire department with a vehicle fire that was just south of the county line into Boone County. At 10:46 am a deputy investigated a stolen vehicle in the 700 block of Eagle St, Scranton. At 11:34 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a male subject sitting in the center of the roadway at 280th St and County Road P-26 (P Ave). The male was identified as Chad Lehnhoff, 44, of Jefferson refused to move and was arrested for interference with official acts*. At 6:25 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on Highway 4 near 260th St. Broderick Greer, 20, of Ankeny lost control of his 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix and entered the ditch and then entered a corn field. The estimated damage to the vehicle was $5,000. Greer was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence*. At 10:45 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with the arrest of Nicholas Weber, 18, of Jefferson.

Friday, July 6: At 1:47 pm a deputy assisted the Grinnell Police Department with locating an owner of property that was found. At 4:47 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction.

Thursday, July 5: At 12:21 am a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint in the 600 block of South 16th St in Grand Junction. At 9:51 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 500 block of County Road E-53 (250 St) in Scranton Township. At 12 pm a deputy located a stolen vehicle from Webster County on Main St near 12th St in Grand Junction. At 2:34 pm a deputy investigated an abandoned 911 call on B Ave near 177th St in Cedar Township.

Wednesday, July 4: At 10:09 am a deputy investigated a gas drive-off at Paton Pit Stop. At 7 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping on 330th St and W Ave in Washington Township. At 8:48 pm a deputy investigated a complain of illegal dumping on D Ave and 230th St in Scranton Township.

Tuesday, July 3: At 12:53 pm a deputy investigated a theft at Spring Lake Park.

Monday, July 2: At 1:13 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson Police Department with an intoxicated person in the 100 block of East Lincoln Way. At 11:18 am a deputy assisted US marshals with locating and arresting Kuron Dennis Jr of Grand Junction on an arrest warrant for escape from custody out of Pennsylvania. At 9:41 pm a deputy investigated a fireworks complaint in Paton.

Sunday, July 1: At 12:50 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of Anyer St in Dana. A 2002 Pontiac Montana was found to be stolen out of Ames. The driver and passenger of the vehicle fled on foot. The passenger, Leah Kurt, 25, homeless, was found later by the deputy and arrested for theft- first degree, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. The driver was identified as Justice Pritchard, 22, of Boone. Arrest warrants have been requested for him. At 3:33 am a deputy investigated an attempted break-in burglary in the 500 block of Anyer St in Dana. At 9:19 am a deputy took a dog that was found in the 1600 block of 257th St in Grant Township to the animal holding facility. At 11:52 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 700 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 7:30 pm a deputy assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office and the Panora police department with an incident in Panora.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
