Results told for non-livestock county fair contests

The 2018 4-H communications contest was held Monday, July 2, at The Gardens in Jefferson. Six exhibitors participated in the event, which was judged by Carolyn Wilson of Redfield. The contest was coordinated by communications superintendent Yvette Bardole.Arthur Bardole and Avery Bardole, both members of the Greenbrier 4-H Club, earned purple ribbons in extemporaneous speaking. Naphatali Hoyt and Noble Hoyt, also Greenbrier members, received blue ribbons for their educational presentations. Gavin VanderLinden earned a purple ribbon for his poster, and Lucy VanderLinden received a blue ribbon for her poster. The VanderLindens are members of the Hardin Happy Hustlers.

Arthur Bardole, Avery Bardole and Gavin VanderLinden were selected for the Iowa State Fair.

The 4-H clothing event was held Tuesday, July 10. Six 4-H members had prepared clothing exhibit. Judge was Barb Sexton of Rockwell City. The show was organized by clothing superintendents Jane Finch and Julie Larson.
Participants also showcased their projects in the 4-H fashion show Friday, July 13.

Ribbon placings follow:
• Sandra Dawson, clothing selection and $15 Challenge, two blue ribbons
• Kate Mobley, Fashion Review, one blue
• Katrina Heupel, clothing selection, Fashion Revue, two blues
• Natalie Heupel, clothing selection, Fashion Revue, two blues
• Ilse Hooper, $15 Challenge, one blue
• Kaycee Pittman, clothing selection, $15 Challenge, two blues

Communications at the Fair was held Saturday, July 14. Abby VanAernam judged Share the Fun Shows and working exhibits. Yvette Bardole coordinated the show.

Ilse Hooper sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as a Share the Fun event. She earned a purple ribbon and will sing at the State Fair.

Arthur Bardole did a working exhibit about strawberry DNA. Natalie and Katrina Heupel demonstrated making stress balls. Both exhibits were awarded purple ribbons and were selected for the State Fair.
