Habitat seeks partner family for 2019 home project

Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity plans to build a new home in Greene County in 2019. The Habitat board has begun the process of identifying a partner family to help build, and then own and occupy the home.

Interested families are encouraged to learn more and submit a completed application. Information and applications are available at www.heartofiowahabitat.org or by calling the Jefferson office of Habitat for Humanity at 515-386-3093. Information can be requested via email at AD@heartofiowahabitat.org

The 2019 Habitat for Humanity home in Greene County will be built in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development program. After acquiring a vacant lot, the home will be built by Habitat volunteers with no cost for donated labor. The home, plus construction materials and any subcontracted services, will then be purchased by the family through a long term, low-interest mortgage with USDA-Rural Development. No down payment will be required.

Habitat partner families must also invest their own sweat equity working alongside volunteers to keep project costs down.

Many families are surprised to learn they can purchase an efficient and attractive home for less than the cost of renting. Made possible through the support of many dedicated volunteers and donors, Habitat partner families still work hard for this life-changing opportunity to capture stability, health and safety through homeownership.

As a Christian housing ministry, Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to providing low-income families a hand up to the many advantages of better housing through affordable home ownership.
