Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Thursday, June 21: At 7:10 am An officer is investigating a criminal mischief case in the area of the 300 block of S. Locust St. Three vehicles were spray painted in this area. One stop sign and one fire hydrant were also painted at E. Madison and Cedar Sts. The investigation continues. At 2:29 pm a complainant reported receiving the Alliant Energy phone scam after receiving a call saying she was behind on her bill and her utilities would be disconnected unless she went to Dollar General and purchased cards to pay it. She did not incur a loss. At 4:56 pm a resident reported receiving the IRS phone scam call. She also did not incur a loss.

Wednesday, June 20: At 4:39 pm a complainant reported the theft of a lawn mower from the 100 block of N. Walnut St. At 5:34 pm a complainant reported a subject was consuming alcohol against his probation terms. The officer met the male and requested a PBT from him. The male took the test and had a positive result. The officer is forwarding the information to the probation officer. At 9:28 pm a complainant reported someone keeps placing rotting food outside her door at Walton Woods apartments. The officer is investigating. ***** An officer has requested arrest warrants after receiving test results on seized items from a traffic stop on 5/24 in the 200 block of S. Elm St. Warrants are requested for Parker Louis Stoneburner, 18, of Ogden for possession marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*

Tuesday, June 19: At 8:10 pm as a result of a traffic stop in the 100 block of E. Central Ave, Jody Schad, 43, of Jefferson was arrested for driving while license barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. *****As a result of an investigation that began 5/17 with the report of a burglary in the parking lot at Wild Rose Casino when a purse was stolen from a vehicle, arrest warrants have been requested for Daniel Joseph Brownfield, 37, of Ogden for burglary to a motor vehicle- third degree and theft- third degree (both aggravated misdemeanors)*.

Monday, June 18: At 12:03 am during a traffic stop in the 600 block of E. Hwy. 30, an officer arrested Mitchell Kenneth Venteicher, 33, of Jefferson on outstanding Greene County arrest warrants for burglary- third degree, driving while license barred and theft- fifth degree.* At 11:21 am a bicycle that was abandoned in the 800 block of W. State St was placed in impound. At 6:35 pm a complainant reported an unknown male subject on her property in the 500 block of W. Monroe St. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Adam Michael Winger, 37, of Jefferson for trespass- simple.*

Sunday, June 17: At 2:19 am a traffic stop on Highway 30 at Mulberry St led to the arrest of Bret Allen Dudley, 41, of Scranton for operating while intoxicated- first offense. At 7:11 pm an officer spotted in a vehicle a passenger for whom he knew there was an outstanding arrest warrant. A traffic stop was performed at Highway 30 and N. Elm St and Paul Richard Nelson, 44, of Jefferson was arrested for a probation violation.*

Friday, June 15: At 11:25 am a complainant reported the theft of prescription medications from an apartment in the 100 block of S. Grimmell Road. 102 South Grimmell Road #26. The officer is investigating.

Wednesday, June 13: At 8:19 am an officer responded to the Greene County Medical Center parking lot for a backing accident. Cassie Bednarik was backing out of a parking spot in her 2009 Toyota Highlander and struck a 2012 GMC Yukon Denali that was owned by Brad Nelson of Greenfield. Neither party wished to have an accident report completed. At 8:20 am officers assisted with a medical call at Greene County Elementary School.

At 5:24 pm an officer responded to the 200 block of W. Central Ave for a traffic accident. Randall Lore of West Des Moines was westbound driving his 1989 Volvo 240. Rhonda Rubens of Jefferson was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of W Central and N. Elm St. Lore was using his cell phone and struck the rear of Rubens’ vehicle. Both vehicles sustained $500 in damages. Lore was cited for failure to maintain control.

Tuesday, June 12: *****As a result of an investigation with the Fort Dodge PD that began 4/12, an arrest warrant has been requested for Shelby Lynn Thoma, 25, of Rockwell City for theft- fifth degree.* This stemmed from a report of checks being stolen from a residence in the 500 block of W. Mahlon St.

Monday, June 11: At 9:46 am officers assisted the Jefferson fire department with a boom truck that was on fire inside of a building at Midland Power, 1005 E. Lincoln Way. The boom truck was pulled out of the building by employees utilizing a forklift, which saved the building. The truck sustained heavy fire damage. At 10:59 am staff at the post office reported damage to the metal railing at the southwest corner of the building. An officer is investigating. At 4 pm an officer assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with a motor vehicle theft investigation. At 9:47 pm officers assisted the jailer at the Greene County jail with an unruly inmate.

Sunday, June 10: At 6:41 pm as a result of a traffic stop in the 300 block of S. Grimmell Rd, Michelle Howard was arrested on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for criminal mischief- fifth degree.* At 7:55 pm officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of W. Mahlon St for a fight in progress. When officers arrived on scene they were informed that Ryan Brown had made entry into the residence and began assaulting an ex-girlfriend. Two males who were at the residence attempted to stop the assault, but a fight ensued between Brown and one of the males. Brown subsequently left the property in a Chevy Impala and went back to his residence. There were outstanding Greene County arrest warrants for Brown for probation violations following dispositions on criminal mischief- third degree and driving while barred/eluding, and for failure to appear on charges of driving while barred and possession of a controlled substance- second offense, and driving while barred in a separate case. Having knowledge of these outstanding arrest warrants, officers attempted to make contact with Brown at his residence, but he would not answer the door. Brown had locked several doors in the residence to prevent apprehension. Officers made entry in the residence and located Brown; he was subsequently placed under arrest for the outstanding arrest warrants. Brown was transported to the Greene County Medical Center to be treated for wounds he sustained during the altercation. Once cleared from the medical center, Brown was transported to the Greene County jail where he was additionally charged with burglary- second degree (Class C felony), domestic abuse assault- second offence (serious misdemeanor), driving while license barred (aggravated misdemeanor), and assault, disorderly conduct, harassment- third degree, and interference with official acts, all simple misdemeanors*.

Friday, June 8: At 3:10 pm as a result of a traffic stop in the 400 block of N. Elm St Leslie Miller, 23, of Perry was arrested on outstanding Greene County arrest warrants for possession of a controlled substance- first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 9:45 pm staff at Wild Rose Casino reported a male urinating in front of the casino and he was ejected from the building. Officers located the male, Kole Thomas Petersen, 38, of Waukee, and he was subsequently arrested for public intoxication*.

Thursday, June 7: At 11:47 am an officer located graffiti on the north side of a building located at 206 N. Wilson. The officer is investigating. At 4 pm an officer assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office with a single vehicle accident in the 1100 block 237th St in Jackson Township. At 4:58 pm staff at Casey’s General Store reported possible tampering with the gas pumps. It appeared someone attempted to remove the “sealed” sticker from several gas pumps. Everything appeared to be okay. At 11 pm an officer responded to the Greene County jail to assist a jailer with an uncooperative inmate. ***** As a result of an investigation that began on 05/18, an arrest warrant has been requested for Amanda Blair, 37, of Churdan for theft- fifth degree.* Blair allegedly stole alcohol from Doc’s Stadium, her place of employment.

Wednesday, June 6: At 3:58 am officers were requested at a residence in the 500 block of E. Clark St for a reported domestic assault occurring there. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Jon Michael Johnson, 29, of Jefferson for domestic abuse assault causing injury (serious misdemeanor)*. At 4 pm a complainant advised he had fallen victim to the IRS phone scam. He was contacted and advised there were warrants for his arrest for back taxes. He was instructed to go to Dollar General and purchase two Google Play cards and place money on each card. The complainant purchased the cards and called the female back and gave her the card numbers. He suffered a loss of $700 in the scam. At 5:15 pm a resident captured a stray puppy in the 500 block of S. Chestnut St. The officer placed the animal in the animal holding facility. At 6:23 pm a resident caught a stray dog in the 400 block of S. High St. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility. At 6:55 pm an officer located a stray dog near S. Maple and W. South Sts. The officer determined the animal jumped the fence at a residence in the 500 block of S. Maple St. The officer contacted the owner by phone and was given a code to open the garage door and place the animal inside the residence. At 7:55 pm officers assisted a deputy in arresting two females with active Greene County arrest warrants. Ashlee Kay Agan, 26, of Jefferson and Riley Isaiah Strom, 23, of Des Moines were both arrested for burglary- third degree (Class D felony) and trespass (simple misdemeanor)*.

Tuesday, June 5: At 11:58 pm officers were requested at a residence in the 500 block of E. Clark St for a reported domestic assault occurring there. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Jon Michael Johnson, 29, of Jefferson for domestic abuse assault causing injury (serious misdemeanor)*.

Monday, June 4: At 3:39 pm an officer assisted the sheriff’s office in locating a vehicle that had been involved in a burglary in the county. At 4:42 pm a land lord requested an officer pick up suspected drug paraphernalia found while cleaning out a residence in the 500 block of W. Harrison St. At 6:25 pm staff at ShineOn Designs reported catching a shoplifter. She chased the subject after leaving the store and caught her. She returned the stolen merchandise and the business asked to have the subject served with a trespass notice advising not to return to the business.

Sunday, June 3: At 11:28 am a complainant reported the theft of a bicycle from the 500 block of N. Cedar St. At 10:30 pm a traffic stop at S. Elm and Vest Sts resulted in the arrest of Ryan Michael Vaughn, 27, of Fort Dodge for operating while intoxicated- first offense, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. He was also cited for use of electronic communication device while driving, open container of alcohol (driver) and improper registration plate lamp.

Saturday, June 2: At 2:28 am an officer performed a traffic stop in the 300 Block of N. Chestnut St that resulted in two arrests. Jessica Ann Marie Kelton, 19, of Jefferson was arrested for driving while suspended and possession of alcohol under legal age.* Also arrested was Monica Emily Smith, of Jefferson for possession of alcohol under legal age.* At 6:17 pm an officer responded to a “door ding” in the Hy-Vee parking lot. The door of a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe owned and parked by Donald Hobbs of Lohrville dinged a 2014 Nissan Altima owned by Layla Rysavy of Jefferson. Damage to the door was estimated at $500.

Friday, June 1: At 7:32 am staff at Durbin Automotive reported someone had attempted to steal a customer’s vehicle while it was parked at the business. Someone had attempted to start the vehicle by breaking into the steering column on a 1998 GMC Sierra C1500. Other vehicles parked at the facility had been entered, but no damage occurred to them. The officer is investigating. At 9:32 am officers began an investigation into spray painting done under the north end of the overpass on N. Elm St. There was a large amount of graffiti located by officers. The investigation continues. At 10:19 am an officer investigated a backing accident at Casey’s General Store. Two vehicles were parked facing the building beside each other. Bob Saffell of Jefferson backed his 2012 Hyundai Accent into a 2016 Kia Sedona owned by Toni Wetrich of Jefferson. Both vehicles had a reported $500 in damages. No citation was issued due to the accident occurring on private property. At 2:30 pm the sheriff requested an officer to speak with a Jefferson female who was using his name in a fundraising event. The subject was promising that the sheriff would wear a dog costume on the square if she could reach her goal of raising $450. The sheriff had not been asked to participate, not did he wish to. The subject was advised to stop using his name in her fundraising efforts.
