Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity is continuing its Helping Hands projects this summer.
A pair of homes in Jefferson have been identified for work and two other Greene County homes are in the process of being confirmed.
The first project is replacing a roof at 100 W. Vest St. According to associate director Jeff Lamoureux, the house is a smaller one but a roof replacement is a big job for the volunteers.
At 107 N. Olive St volunteers will paint the exterior of the house and build a small ramp for handicap accessibility.
The Helping Hands program is modeled off the ecumenical program that was a precursor of Habitat for Humanity in Greene County. Local Habitat board members have found that doing four or five home repair projects is more beneficial to the county than building entire homes like Habitat for Humanity does around the country.
