Rams play Saydel at home, win baseball, lose softball

The Ram baseball team topped the Saydel Eagles 10-0 in Jefferson Wednesday behind the pitching of senior Ben Wilkins. Wilkins pitched all five innings of the game that was abbreviated by the 10-run rule.

Wilkins allowed just two hits, both of them singles. He struck out two and walked four. The Rams made no errors in the game while the Eagles made four.

Ram batters had nine hits. Sophomore Nick Breon was three for three at the plate, with two doubles and a singles, two RBI, and a run scored. Wilkins and senior Wade Adcock doubled and senior Jordan Patterson hit a pair of singles. Wilkins’ double brought in three runs, and Austin Delp and Tom Gannon hit singles for RBIs for each of them.

The win over Saydel improved the Rams’ record to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Saydel is now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

The softball team took its third loss of the week, falling 9-1 to the Eagles. All three games were home games.

The Rams had only four hits and made five errors in the loss. Jenna Beyers had the Rams’ only extra base hit, a double. Megan Carey, Camryn Paup and Danielle Hoyle hit singles. Samantha Hardaway pitched the first three innings and was tagged with the loss. Beyers pitched the last four innings.

The Eagles scored twice in the first, second and third innings and led 6-0 before the Rams got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. That run was the result of a dropped fly ball. The Eagles scored twice in the sixth inning and put up their final run in the seventh inning.

The Eagles compiled 12 hits and made two errors.

With the loss to Saydel the Rams are 3-10 overall and 3-4
