Trivia, spelling bee part of family fun at Bell Tower Festival

The Bell Tower Festival will offer friendly competitions of all sorts, including the brainy ones.

A trivia contest is slated for Saturday at 2 pm on the second floor of the Jefferson municipal building, 220 N. Chestnut St.

Teams of up to six persons will compete for prizes.  High school teacher Darren Jackson, who is coordinating this year’s contest, calls trivia “fun general knowledge.” Last year’s categories included “name the state quarter,” “name that breakfast cereal,” and “It sounds dirty, but it’s not.”

Registration can be done Saturday before the contest.

The  annual spelling bee will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the Greene County Community Center. Competitive spellers will be in age groups, with grades 1-2, grades 3-4, grades 5-8, grades 9-12 and adult. Winners will receive trophies.

The spelling bee is hosted by the Greene County Historical Society. The sign-up book is at the Greene County Community Center now, but same day registration is welcome.
