Ram boys finish soccer season with substate loss to Keumper

Greene County’s inaugural soccer season ended Wednesday when the boys lost in a Class 1A Substate 1 game to Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) in Denison by a 3-2 score. The boys’ record for the season was 10-9 under volunteer coaches Carl Behne and Chad Black.

The Rams took 13 shots and 11 shots on goal. Senior goalie Kyle Peters was credited with 16 saves.

The Knights scored first, putting up their first point just 19 seconds into the game. Brazilian exchange student Leo Marques scored his 36th goal of the season with 25:28 to play in the first half, knotting the score at 1-1.

The Knights reclaimed the lead with 5:53 to play in the first half, but the Ram Junior Gutierrez answered with a goal just two minutes later. It was his 19th goal of the season.
The only goal of the second half was a Knights’ goal with 15:40 to play. The Rams took several shots on goal in the remaining 15 minutes of play but none of them made it in the net.
