Everyone is invited to drop in a line at the annual fishing derby to be held on Monday, May 28, at Whiterock Conservancy at Coon Rapids. The free event is open to anglers of all ages.

Fishing will run from 3 to 5:30 pm at the Garst Farm District Pond on the south end of Coon Rapids. The pond is highly productive with nice largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish – walleye and northern pike may also be caught. Prizes will be awarded by age group for biggest fish and other classes to be announced at the start of the program.

Another annual tradition, the Slow Sunday Drive, will be held May 27 from 2 to 5 pm. Bring your John Deere Gator or similar ATV or UTV to enjoy a three-hour drive through of the prairie, savanna, forest, river valley and agricultural land that makes up Whiterock Conservancy. The cost $25 per vehicle which can be paid at the start of the ride.

Both events begin at the Historic Garst Farm District ponds at 1390 Highway 141. Some parking is available or participants can park in town and use the underpass on the Town Loop Trail to access the ponds.
