Ram girls miss trip to Regional golf final on a tie breaker

Danielson places second, advances to Region 1 final

The Greene County girls golf team tied for second place at Class 2A Region 1B meet in Ida Grove Monday, but missed the bid to advance to the Region 1 final on a tie breaker.

Senior Rachael Danielson, could still finish her high school career with a third trip to the state golf meet. Danielson was runner-up at the Ida Grove meet, qualifying her for the Region 1 final in Mapleton May 21.

Alta-Aurelia placed first with a team score of 379, lead by meet medalist Annika Patton with an 80 for the 18 holes. Danielson shot an 83 to lead the Rams. Maple Valley- Anthon Oto- Charter Oak Ute and Greene County tied at 409. Using the score of the fifth player as the tie breaker, MVAOCOU was six strokes under Greene County to earn the trip to the Region 1 final.

Ellie Madson shot 103, Mariah Block shot 106 and Kaitlyn McColley shot 117 for the team score Serenity Blair shot a 120.

“I appreciate the effort this year by the girls. They improved all season long and we were very close to achieving our goal as a team today,” coach Heath Telleen said after the Ida Grove meet.
