Scranton council works on RAGBRAI fees, regulations

The Scranton city council approved several items relating to the upcoming visit by the bicyclists on RAGBRAI®. The council took action at its April 10 meeting.

A resolution that set the fees, locations and regulations for vendors on July 23 during the RAGBRAI pass through was unanimously approved. Preliminary approval was given to the plans for Wine on Wheels and Jam Time DJ Productions as part of the event.

LaDonna Savonell was appointed by mayor Cole Gustoff to the Scranton library board with the blessing of the council. A permit by Stacy MacDonald to use and display fireworks on June 30 with a back-up date of July 1 was approved.

Fred Kesten with Region XII COG fielded questions relating to the sewer project and contracts. The council unanimously approved the contract for $300,000 with the Iowa Economic Development Authority CDBG program and the contract with Region XII for administrative assistance.

Reports were provided by the library, community center, sesquicentennial, park and public works. Items discussed included storm drain repairs, manhole installations, shop door repairs, street signs and street work.

The council approved renting a portable toilet at Scranton School Memorial Park at a cost of $110 per month. Plans are to construct a rest room and shelter house at that location using funding obtained from Grow Greene County municipal and competitive grant funding. The Grow Greene County agreements were approved by the council.

A public hearing date of Tuesday, May 8, at 6 pm was scheduled for a budget amendment. This will be held in conjunction with the regular council meeting.  ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
