Scranton RAGBRAI meeting Thursday

RAGBRAI® (Register Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) will go through Scranton on Monday, July 23. The riders will leave Denison Monday morning, traveling south and east toward Coon Rapids. The riders will exit Coon Rapids on County Road E-63, turning north on Highway 25.

They are supposed to be routed into Scranton before turning east on County Road E-53 for their overnight stop in Jefferson.

A Scranton community planning meeting will be held Thursday, April 5, at 6 pm at city hall anyone who is interested in participating in RAGBRAI, either as a vendor or a volunteer. Even those who are not sure they will be participating are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Questions can be directed to the RAGBRAI planning committee chairs Dawn Rudolph or Dave and Cheryl Dideriksen or persons can call city hall at 712-652-3888.

This is a similar route in Greene County to 2008 when the bicyclists also spent the night in Jefferson. Scranton got caught in a bind when a thunderstorm blew through and many bicyclists opted to head directly to Jefferson, bypassing Scranton. Everyone is working together to make sure that incident is not repeated in 2018. ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
