Relay for Life invites survivors, caregivers

RSVPs for reception requested by April 9

For the sixth year in a row, Greene County Medical Center is chosen to sponsor a reception honoring cancer survivors and their caregivers at the annual Relay for Life of Greene County, slated for Saturday, April 21, at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.

This year’s super hero theme, “Who’s Your Hero”, highlights the courage and strength of cancer survivors and their caregivers, along with the scientists who are using their own super hero powers to rid the world of cancer.

Dozens of invitations have been mailed by the Relay for Life survivors/caregivers committee. However, the committee wants to be sure all those who are cancer survivors – the “survivor” designation begins upon receiving a diagnosis – and their caregivers know they’re welcome, regardless of whether they’re on the mailing list.

The invitation requests an RSVP by April 9 so that special T-shirts can be ordered for survivors. Committee co-chair Ashley Beekman asks all those who plan to attend RSVP to relayforlifegrco@gmail.com or telephone her at 515-370-2677

The reception honoring cancer survivors has long been an integral part of the Relay for Life. This year it will begin with registration of survivors and caregivers at 9:30 am, followed by a reception in the east meeting room (former preschool room) at the community center. A group photo will be taken at 10 a followed by the survivor and caregiver walk at 10:20.
